how do I keep crows from eating my CORN? - 01/03/21 12:35 PM

I am trying to bait for raccoons and opossums, but the crows eat half of it, any ideas? what can I mix with it to keep them away? I was wondering if I could mix with molasses, pancake syrup, koolaid, jello powder?

thanks!

make dirt hole sets so they cant see it. use dp's so crows can't get to it. instead of corn go to the dollar store. buy cans of jack mackeral. you can use it straight. a teaspoon full per set is plenty. set your traps where the coons and possums are already going.

I like danny's idea. I have to deal with the crow and other critters when I put corn out for the Deer.

Hide the corn. Add some stinky lure or bait. Good luck.

Are you trying to draw them to a bait pile?
If so, I'd forget that and just make coon and possum sets where they are and want to go.

Could string some netting over it. A lot of fooling around and expense for $ 4 coon unless your goal is population control.

I don't know how you would hide anything from a crow. When I'm In my shed skinning they are already hanging around the shop and they can't see what I'm doing.
Lately I have been tossing out my scrapings from the few coyotes and beaver I have caught. The crows got that stuff cleaned up In minutes. I just toss It out In the driveway.

Old timers say that if you shoot a crow and hang it up it keeps them away.

They learn who you are, your truck, and what you are up to. Don't miss. Load for bear (think far shots) and get as many as you can the first try. Wait on a good opportunity... don't get jumpy and go for it and not get any or only get one.

I just started fooling with them this year. Good luck.

They don't scare either, unless you're hunting them

12 ga, a case of shells, decoys, and a call works for me. More fun than chasing worthless possums and near worthless coon.

It's more fun during nesting season. Knock a few nests down with young birds In them and you don't need any caller. Just lots of ammo.

Hang a dead crow near your bait. They don’t like seeing their own dead.

They sell stuff that you can dye the corn so its camo'd. Will at least make it harder for them to find from the air. Probably would change the location so they cant accidentally get lucky.

Squirrels and turkeys eat our deer corn. Have considered hanging ears of corn from tree limbs using mono line.

Good luck with finding a reliable answer to crows. You need to find another bait and method not clearly visible from the air. Birds have extreme vision, sense of smell and conditioned memories.

Stop using corn, start using jack mackerel or other bait suitable for racoon or opossum.

Cages? I don't see catching too many crows in blended cages

Hanging a dead crow works for me. Just make sure and hang them where the coons can't get to them, I don't if they eat them or just take them away. I haven't found any evidence of them feeding on the crows close by. Hang fresh dead crows anytime you get them. This works for me.

Build cages that the crows can drop Down into them but can’t fly out , then shoot them
Bait them with road kill and or corn
