How is shipping time now with usps?

Re: is usps picking up speed - 01/07/21 04:16 PM

slow. It takes 5-7 days to get a package from So. IL to STL. then it sits there for 2 weeks before it moves. I ship 300-500 packages a month, and customers are not happy.

Shipped two large flat rates on December 7th to Missouri.

One arrived after 17 days, the other stills sits in a sorting
facility in St. Louis, 100 miles from it's destination.

Customer is not happy, and me as the shipper is also a bit miffed.

You could WALK there and back and still have it before USPS finished their coffee.

My IPSC gong is still undelivered... Ordered in early November from a place in Minnesota. Going on 60 days now.

The changes the new new head postal guy made late last summer seem to have had the same effect everywhere. We too ship a lot for our business. And we also have lots of angry customers, not sure how many we have lost because they mostly understand it's out of our hands.
But the "improvements" made last year i to the postal service haven't improved anything anyone i know has experienced.

Re: is usps picking up speed - 01/07/21 06:17 PM

I ship a lot of parts for our business. UPS and Fed ex do good job. we ship primarily UPS and they have been on time even thru the Holidays. You guys need to compare costs - UPS has volume discounts and they now offer flat rate boxes - bigger and cheaper than the post office. I only use the post office for Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico.

I ordered a couple sets of scope rings from CZ USA over the weekend and they came today. Ordered some stuff from Midway on December 19 and still haven't seen it.

Re: is usps picking up speed - 01/07/21 07:04 PM

They are doing better down here. I've ordered gun parts and paraphernalia and had on time deliveries 3 times in a row now. 2 of the 3 were Texas companies but the ebay order was from NV.

(fingers crossed they are on a roll)

Re: is usps picking up speed - 01/07/21 07:06 PM

Just got back from local post office. Woman in charge told me expect long delivery time. They have trucks loaded and no drivers. Pay is great but covid got too many drivers down, she says. Sent furs to moyle mink. New York to Idaho priority mail. Quite pricey as usual. Got some more to send but itwill be a week or two. Gonna try Sleepy creek tannery with that bunch. I'll compare wait times, prices, and quality.

Son sent me a Christmas card and was stamped Dec. 8, 2020 from Arkansas. Got it yesterday Jan. 6, 2021! Hate to see how long a package would take!

Coonrich - I think Priority Mail packages move faster than first class letters.

Re: is usps picking up speed - 01/07/21 07:36 PM

I ship by Express Mail. It's very expensive with the dimensional shipping. The Post Office is now only giving a partial refund when they are late and doesn't say why. They are late 1/3 of the time lately.

Had a customer in Mi send a check in a priority mail envelope from the PO. Cost him 7 or 8 bucks to send it on the 2nd of Dec. I finially got it just after Christmas. I had sent his parts about the same day, and he had them in about a week. His sat for weeks in Mi, and their excuse ..... kung flu!

I agree Wiss Miss but before it usually only took 4 or 5 days for a letter or card.

Re: is usps picking up speed - 01/07/21 08:46 PM

they had news stories about how USPS had rented a warehouse in Oak Creek WI just south of Milwaukee the primary processing hub for WI and some packages were 3 weeks old at Christmas. I am hoping if things slow down with demand they will catch up by 2-1-2021

Yesterday I received two pair of wool socks I ordered on December 4, 2020.

It only took USPS a little over a month to deliver them. They're just a bunch of regular speed demons. LOL

The sad tracking story:

Fast enough to elect a president! Read all the previous replies and then think about it! Skipping the voter verification part is only half the problem. Not trying to steal post. Ordered daughter a book from Ebay that shipped November 27 with a estimate arrival of December 3. Shipped with tracking within few days of ordering. Got it yesterday.

They do good until they drop your small packages off at the USPS .

Re: is usps picking up speed - 01/07/21 11:43 PM

I think what's happening is they've just located the parts for the disassembled sorting machines that the Postmaster General had removed from the POs', and then taken apart.

If anybody out there has a schematic for these sorting machines, PLEASE CONTACT your local post office.
I guess the lesson here is, you can't have something both ways!

Re: is usps picking up speed - 01/08/21 01:30 AM

Normally we get a pile of junk mail daily. Lately it appears we get our mail delivered every other day based on my mailbox being empty every other day. Through rain, snow, or dark of night, the postman will do what is convenient on any particular day, and if I complain it's just likely to get worse.

Not a package but I mailed my oldest son in Richmond VA a Christmas card with a check in it on Dec. 16th and he still has not received it. Don't know what to think or course of action at this point other than to just wait?

Re: is usps picking up speed - 01/13/21 01:08 AM

Sent from northern NY 3 identical packages express mail last Saturday. 2 went to Michigan and 1 to California. The package sent to CA arrived today, the 2 packages sent to MI have not yet been delivered. Go figure ?? The package sent clear across the country arrived before the 2 sent 1/3 the way across the country ?

Re: is usps picking up speed - 02/09/21 11:06 PM

Today there was a surprise in my mailbox. I had ordered my annual free battery for my Crimson Trace laser back in June of 2020. They put down the order date as Sept 1 2020 and it was shipped on October 8th 2020. I just received it today on February 9th 2021. Wow, that was fast (only 4 months)! It was shipped by UPS Mail Innovations and had a USPS tracking # on it. Might be fun to look up the # and see where the box traveled before it reached it's final destination (me).
