I don’t know if this is the anniversary of Blackie’s passing, but I miss him too. He was one of my bait making mentors several years ago. I still use his oils that I still get from Scott Welch, Who took over Blackies business.

A little story abut Blackie.

Back in the early 90's I was just really getting off the ground as a well-known trapper. I had written several books and magazine articles, I was doing seminars at trapper's conventions, on the line instructions, and was a part of The Trapper videos with Tom Miranda. I was also getting heavily involved in tournament fishing at that time and I was signing some tournament sponsors.

All through the 1980's I had been using a lot of Blackie's lures and really liked them. I got the idea of asking him to sponsor me. Heck, it works for fishing, why nor for trapping? So I talked to Blackie about it, and he agreed to provide me with free lures in exchange for the publicity of mentioning his lures in my seminars, magazine articles, etc. It was a win win.

Not sure if that's been done before or since, but he was forward-thinking enough to go for it.

Blackie had the best lure ingredients that I ever used. Always knew that it was good stuff. Joanne was always so nice on the phone also. I havnt ordered anything since they passed on.
