Coop those male reds starting to break yet. I quit up my way because 50% of them were trashed.

Re: Eagles and a couple fox - 01/10/21 05:15 AM

Ern, I quit I think Jan. 1 or 2... it was so wet I tripped them off and left them out thinking I would reset, but never did. I had a big male rubbed my last check so bad I didn't even skin it, just cut the glands. I'll agree, a good % of the males are shot by early Jan... rubbed or shedding and really thin on the flanks...
Those pictures were taken between Christmas and New Years by a veterinarian that rides with me once a year usually, just for the heck of it and to take pictures.

What has the eagles hanging on the pivot? In Alaska eagles are just white headed Ravens.

Free range chickens???

Re: Eagles and a couple fox - 01/10/21 03:15 PM

Coop. I usually quit around that time to. The females are ok but those males aren’t worth harvesting. No since killing animals that have no value.

Re: Eagles and a couple fox - 01/10/21 03:19 PM

No on the free range. Millions of chickens are grown in houses in lower DE and it produces a lot of dead birds and manure. Some chickens fall off the "moving" truck, escape when being caught, or are discarded for various reasons. Some are killed on the road, some dead are put in the manure to be spread on fields for fertilizer... by whatever means, a lot of chickens become eagle food...

Ern... we think alike on that.

Same location, different days. [Linked Image]

Looking good down there in LSD!

Lousy with white headed buzzards as usual.

I’m still trapping because the farmer wants them gone and hey, $20 is $20.

Here are a couple, same set location, 2 days.

Starting to rub.

Thanks Coop! I wasn’t even sure if I’d get a chance to set any traps.

Another one today, directly across the lane from the other.
