& I was wondering what the heck I was seeing- a grease ring ya think Pete? Those were wad cutters made up by a friend to put bad pigs down.
wad cutters , and especially cast boolits leave that ring
we call it a grease ring we sometimes use it to tell what was a shoot through from another target . we try not to but sometimes a target from side of the stage if you hit it just right you can get a shoot through or if you have a partially obscured target the fist target has the grease ring the second doesn't typically. so for scoring you count the ones with the ring.

Thanks Pete- now it makes sense. The reloads shoot good and the next time I put a pig way too big to eat down I will do some hill billy ballistics tests on his brain and chest cavities. If they hit as hard as the outbound flight I will get a bunch made up. They make me glad I got a 6 inch barrel with some porting pointed upwards I can tell ya that.

I could maybe hit a pickup truck w/ a .380 pocket piece any further than about 20 yards LOL
You and I should get together to shoot our .357s, maybe eat some more of your walleye slabs and finish the day with a couple cigars and a drink that makes our bellies warm!

I believe at 50 yds that's pretty awesome with a big recoil gun, if you wish to really see what you can do, set up at 10 or fifteen and have some one stop you at 7 seconds, you should be empty before that, with all on paper in the center ring.
Not many able to do that unless they are spending a LOT of time practicing control and firing !
None the less thats pretty darn good and probably would be able to protect your self or others if needed !
Re: Well do I shoot good or what? - 01/16/2105:25 AM
Haha- yall are so funny I'd let you carry my ammo if there was ever a real life gun fight.
Griterguy I have a pair of guns that fit me entirely too well. I don't even practice under about 20 yards anymore b/c I need my side arms to put piggies down and I don't actually like to get much closer to that LOL. Ask Davis fur after you have one get under you, it shakes your nerve.
Re: Well do I shoot good or what? - 01/16/2105:48 AM
Don't doubt that for a second, have been on black bear hunts where the cubs wander to close to your stand and you are watching Mom decide what she wants to do, it's pretty un-nerving, I only mention the seven seconds as most believe in a defensive action the attacker can advance on top of you from that distance in three seconds, so you have to draw and acquire in less than that to immobilize.
Most say thats easy, until a stop watch is put on them and you go measure where your shots are LOL, its very educating to realize how long that is when you can achieve the control you need.
Prior to that its enlightening to know how long one takes to acquire target and fire !!

I know all the theories but I can only draw and shoot accurately so fast. B/c of that limiting factor I would like to think situational awareness could give me another second of 2 to logically think "I don't like the way that group is moving" and already be planning the next step.
The quicker you realize who the threat is the better off you will be I think. Down here we don't have much of a BLM or Antifa presence but we all know what a meth head or cartel enforcer looks like. Churches dont take chances any more. Ushers remain standing at all corners and entry points and you better believe they are packing and know anyone new who walks in to their church.
Re: Well do I shoot good or what? - 01/16/2106:54 AM
definitely keep eyes open situational awareness. my time off the buzzer to round on target varies by distance to target and cover garment I am probably faster than most people , short of the "pros" and I know that isn't fast enough you better believe my plan is cover first , if you see things that don't look wrong and you make a move to distance , your not out anything much. if you were wrong you took a precaution.

CCP qualification this morning. The instructor is an old Gunnery Sgt and knows I plan to be his problem student but that I got some ammo he can't find so he is stuck with me LOL
Re: Well do I shoot good or what? - 01/16/2103:07 PM
Well I wanna pass even if Goober1 doesn't think I shoot good nuff.
My preppin buddy who lives in town can make these almost as consistent as a copy machine but someday Ima drag his (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) out in a big wind and say do with yer subcompact Glock 43X out here Amigo.
Re: Well do I shoot good or what? - 01/16/2104:06 PM
Had my shoes off this morning so I counted them bullet holes, Then used the wife's calculator to figure 9+7 to make sure my figuring was right and now I see you must be using that common core math. That's what I see.
Re: Well do I shoot good or what? - 01/16/2105:45 PM
depends what the qualification is ,however qualifications are typically set up to be easily passable.
when you get a chance you should try some runs on the clock with multiple targets
El-Prez is a good drill to test that you put it all together well
3 targets 1 yard between them left right
targets 7 yards from shooter
shooter starts back to targets, hands up in surrender position even with or above ears.
on the command or buzzer shooter turns , draws, fires 2 rounds into each target , reloads and fires 2 more into each target
I just did a quick search here is a short video that explains it and what is going on. these guys give them sleeves 11 seconds , as I understood it sub 10 was the win and has been for 40 years originally when it was designed targets were 3 yards apart but it got shrunk for range size issues. lots of small variations people make the goal is the same master all the skills and put them together in one drill for a test. some people start with 7 in the gun and don't go to slide lock.
I like the ease of steel and will hang 3 66% ipsc steel at more like 9 yards . a good safe steel distance. then you can run it a bunch of times. figure out where you need work and work on just that part then put it all back together
Re: Well do I shoot good or what? - 01/16/2111:14 PM
LMAO @ common core math I had one nick the top of the paper and obviously there were a couple flew over it.
GC Pete. For the Tx CCP we had to score a min of 175 pts out of 250 but the shots were from 3, 7, and 15 yards so basically point blank if you know your way round a pistola.
