You can eat a cow but not a dog. It's doubtful either knows it's being cooked. I wonder if anyone has been prosecuted for swallowing a live goldfish?

What the heck! Id be ticked if cops showed up and took my coyote drumsticks i have on the smoker. Man, id be exiting that state as fast as i could. Id like to extend hot kristi noems invitation to move to SD. IF you arent a liberal. If you like low pay, sort of high housing, and all the freedom to grill all the coyote you want, this is your place.

Re: Rome NY man grilling canine. - 01/20/21 03:16 PM

it's NY what do you expect they are sending a guys dinner to a lab to be tested

you would have thought the burden of proof was on the PD to say it was a dog for sure before taking a mans dinner. just say something like next time we need you to retain the hide for ID sort of like leaving the skin on fillets till cooking them.

my neighbor stopped over a few weeks ago , said man from my kitchen window it looked like a dog hanging on your skinning rack , no just a small pig I let hang over night before skinning and cutting.

I do live in town , the ordinance states you may not hang a carcass not for human consumption. so as long as your eating it or plan to it is just food hanging.

Enough with the Ny bashing. LOL. You can cook and eat all the coyotes you want
in NY .
LE stated that it had been cooked beyond recognition whether it was a domestic dog or coyote. But you cannot cook and eat Fido.

Holly Molly... I had a guy call my business a day or two ago, wanting to know if he could eat a Coyote legally in New York. I explained to him that as long as they were in season, and he had met all legal requirements in harvesting it, I didn't see why not. I wouldn't suggest it, but didn't think it was illegal. Never really thought he was going to have a Bar B Que and do it. Has to be the same guy that called.

Any idea how many dogs have been eaten by Native americans in the past couple hundred years? Probably a million.

The Lewis and Clark expedition when wintering on the Pacific coast, preferred local native American dog meat over salmon fillets.

no judgment on eating dog it is just meat as long as he precured the livestock through sale , trade or his own raising and not by theft.

some judgment on cooking something beyond recognition although they dig recognize it as a possible dog or coyote. so is that really beyond recognition? stew meat is beyond recognition but even then you can often tell what it is mutton is darker than beef , pork is identifiable as not beef or chicken or mutton , venison. some things like telling goat from mutton might be a little hard

Shouldn't cruelty charges be based on how something is killed and not how it is eaten? What a ridiculous mindset this country has anymore!

You guys are making me hungry. What kind of cat meat should I try. That bobcat carcass when cooked will probably get me in hot water with the local food police. I ate fox two times in my life and although it was palatable, I wouldn't recommend it.

I have to ask. Don’t the local authorities have real criminals to go after instead of messing with this case? You know, like people who are a danger to their community or citizens?

When MN had a wolf season one year, I got a taste of barbecued timber wolf. I don't recommend it. I would guess coyote would taste similar. There is more tasty wild meat out there than these, IMO.

Re: Rome NY man grilling canine. - 01/20/21 05:30 PM

De-boned , well trimmed and cut to small pieces in a curry or spiced Asian dish most anything is palatable.

my wife doesn't like mutton but I think it is good. I am not going to pay extra but I will take all the free mutton being offered.

the first time my wife didn't know it was mutton she just knew it wasn't beef and she is good at adding up not beef with what I had brought home recently.

No, they really don't.

Ever since the Democratic controlled Senate & Assembly eliminated bail,
almost all criminals are released immediately.

Cops don't arrest anyone not charged with violent felonies any more.

It's a free for all here in New York State now.

so if the penalty is a fine your getting hit for it but if an arrest and free bail are the need then why bother and just go bug some guy cooking dinner?

I've eaten dog It's OK.
You could pick out a live one and have It butchered or pick one that was already butchered. I did neither but sat down with Mama San and partook.

My own BIL, while a POW during WW2, helped eat the camp Commandant's dog. They were nearly starved to death by being feed rutabagas and sawdust filled bread for months. Til the day he died he said that cooked dog was one of the best meals he ever ate. Miraculously, along with another GI, he escaped and, with help from the Russians, made it back to the American lines.

America, where it's okay to murder and part out a human baby developed enough to live outside it's mother, but illegal to eat a dog.

I agree. These people who develop these laws have no conscience, are morally corrupt, and lack any semblance of common sense.

I saw a show that was taped in a Chinese restaurant kitchen where they were preparing domestic cat. They would kill the cat, dip it in scalding water to remove most of the fur and making skinning easier. Then it was sectioned and baked with various herbs and spices.
