New mexico needs alot of help UPDATE!!! - 01/22/21 11:11 PM

Oppose SB-Oppose SB32!!!!!
Share this link with everyone to watch the committee hearing on Sunday at 9am mountain time. They will run a poll asking for who support and who opposes. It’s a zoom meeting so tell everyone to try the link tomorrow and create a zoom account if they need. Share it far and wide even outside of NM. Just don’t say “doesn’t matter if you’re from Nm”. Just encourage people to join the meeting and vote to oppose when asked. DONT USE THE WEBCAST LINK. That is different and won’t let you vote. The house does things different from the senate. So there is not deadline to register to speak. Simply use the above link I just sent.

PEOPLE MUST HAVE A ZOOM ACCOUNT TO USE IT.

We need as much help this year as we can get. Please send an email to each and every representative. This year the lawmakers have banned the public from the roundhouse and the NMTA fears this may mean they feel free to ram through laws like this that could not normally pass.
This bill is very similar to the bills we have seen in the past and will make it illegal to trap ANY public land in NM. It even bans cage traps. The bill is called the "Wildlife Conservation and Public Safety House Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Committee Members:

Those legislators already know how they will vote. They are doing it now so the public will calm down by the next election. It is pretty obvious public opinion doesnt matter anymore. Elections can just be rigged. NM is the next state to join the California union of communist democrats. I am sending emails but not holding my breath. Any plans to show up anyway? I am willing just dont want to be alone.

NEW MEXICO
Trapping ban clears first legislative hurdle
Published: Wednesday, February 3, 2021
Legislation to prohibit traps, snares and wildlife poisons from being used on public lands across New Mexico cleared its first legislative hurdle yesterday.

Environmentalists and animal advocacy groups testified on behalf of the measure during a Senate committee meeting yesterday, saying New Mexico needs to join neighboring states and ban what they described as a cruel and outdated practice.

Rural residents and wildlife conservation officers said trapping remains an important tool for managing wildlife and protecting livestock. They pointed to changes adopted last year by the state Game Commission after a lengthy public process, saying lawmakers should give the trapping rules a chance to work before imposing a sweeping ban.

Under the rules, trappers have to complete an education course, and restrictions were imposed on setting traps and snares around designated trailheads and on select tracts of public lands in New Mexico.

Designed largely to reduce the hazard of traps to hikers and their dogs, the prohibitions include mountainous areas east of Albuquerque, along with swaths of national forest along highways leading to ski areas near Santa Fe and Taos. In the southern part of the state, it includes the eastern portion of the Organ Mountain-Desert Peaks National Monument.

"The concerns that have been expressed over the years by the Legislature and by members of the urban public have actually already been resolved," said Kerrie Cox Romero with the New Mexico Council of Outfitters and Guides. "This bill provides no recognition of that effort."

Cox Romero said much of the land that would be affected by the bill is remote and rarely sees human activity other than trappers.

Supporters of the legislation argued that several pet dogs have been injured despite last year's rule changes and that more needs to be done to ensure public safety given New Mexico's push to increase outdoor recreation.

Kevin Bixby, executive director of the Southwest Environmental Center in Las Cruces, said he was hiking over the weekend and saw many others doing the same.

"Traps on public lands pose a threat to our members and all public land users," he told lawmakers. "They're like land mines basically waiting to harm whatever unfortunate creature happens to step on them — whether it's a wild animal or pet dog or a horse carrying a rider or, God forbid, a human being."

Supporters also raised concerns about traps hampering efforts in southwestern New Mexico to restore the endangered Mexican gray wolf.

Jessica Johnson, chief government affairs officer for Animal Protection Voters, said there was an effort to consider the concerns of ranchers and sportsmen when drafting the legislation, and exceptions were included for private and tribal land. The bill also would allow federal and state wildlife managers to use nonlethal traps to deal with problem predators.

Violating provisions of the proposed trapping ban would amount to a misdemeanor.

The measure must be considered by another committee before reaching the full Senate for a vote. — Susan Montoya Bryan, Associated Press

Re: New mexico needs alot of help - 03/05/21 04:56 AM

How are new mexicans supposed to trust the new mexico legislative process when bills that affect peoples livelyhoods way of life and science based wildlife managemet are scheduled in comitee hearings with less then 24 hours of notice to the public?
a hour and a half before the deadline to register for public comment?
This throws transparency and trust between state legislators and the public out the window.
According to page 21 of the legislative handbook under senate rules
comitee meetings must be posted 24 hours
Before they are heard
Sb32 was posted at 3:23 pm march 4th and is first on the agenda in senate judiciary at 135 pm march 5th

How is this acceptable?

Pleasecontact the commitee members and ask why is the chair Joseph cervantes breaking the rules?

Oppose SB32!!!!!
Share this link with everyone to watch the committee hearing on Sunday at 9am.

SB 32 passed the New Mexico Senate by a 23-16 vote last night. Now in the House. Another note for those following the Secretary of the Interior nomination. One of Senate Bill 32's sponsors here in New Mexico is a field representative for Ms. Haaland.

Re: New mexico needs alot of help - 03/10/21 06:40 PM

Im ready to send in more comments how do I reach the house?

Democratic Sens. Roberto “Bobby” Gonzales of Ranchos de Taos and Brenda McKenna of Corrales said the ban would protect dogs and other pets from strangulation or catastrophic injuries.

At least nine dogs have been caught in privately set traps or snares on public land in New Mexico this trapping season, according to Animal Protection Voters.

“Imagine trying to free a pet or yourself under these highly stressful and painful circumstances,” McKenna said.

So would a leash law protect dogs. How many dogs got hit by cars? More than 9 l would guess! Good grief there's cactus out there a dog could step on one and get spines ; way worse than a brief encounter with a trap!

Re: New mexico needs alot of help - 03/12/21 04:35 PM

As sportsmen this quote should be taken to heart.
"
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger;
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,
Disguise fair nature with hard-favour'd rage;
Then lend the eye a terrible aspect;"

War is upon us it is a diffrent war its a war of words of politics of useing maninipulation to deceive people into believing they are "eco warriors" wildlife management has gone political.we need to fight. Animal rights groups are makeing millions and useing it to influence polititions this is the new fight.

We cant stand on the sidelines anymore
We have to fight to be VOCAL . Use youre pen. Use youre keyboard use youre smart phone and be as vocal as the animal rights groups.

This current speaker just cornered the creator of the bill.

Body grips would they be illegal? Sponsor, yes. Speaker, what's the most common trap to trap beaver which cause lots of damage? Sponsor, no idea. Speaker body grip traps.

Hahaha

There's a guy speaking that claims to be a hunter that supports this bill. Unbelievable. What a bunch of garbage.

Maybe he should've started trapping or at the least did the trappers ed course.
If anything, trapping has helped me become a better hunter.

What are the chances of that after such a close vote? What kind of guy is he? Party?

That's what I saw too Adam! It must be accepted to take an oral vote request from those abstaining after the vote has timed out?! Because that's what just happened.

She is an anti all the way around, America, 2nd, Trump, open borders, huge supporter of Biden and his policies, she's been caught in many scandals, she's now begging Biden not to cancel fossil fuels because it's most of the state's revenue.

Also to be noted.... a's of yesterday there was 150 bills sitting on a legislature's desk for final documentation ot something before going to the gov. I think she has until Saturday to sign/ veto everything

Re: New mexico needs alot of help - 03/19/21 01:44 PM

Is there any hope that the governor won't sign it?
Posted By: MKHR

Re: New mexico needs alot of help - 03/19/21 02:33 PM

Some but doubtful. She won't gain any votes by signing it but she will lose votes. But she loves her some virtue signaling.

The bill not yet law, we still have a voice.
https://www.governor.state.nm.us/contact-the-governor/
The anti groups always threaten NM tourism when they push legislation. If you're a non resident let them known about all the vacations you will no longer be taking here. If you are a New Mexico resident tell the govenor how many votes she will lose if she signs the bill to law.

Sent. I told her as long as SB 32 stands that I will take my hunt of a lifetime to another state that follows the science of animal management. That I will not pay into their draw system for tags, and will not spend my money on guides, local attractions, or amenities.
