shipping ammo

I heard today that UPS and fedex will no longer ship ammunition. I have not ordered ammo in awhile mainly because its out of stock everywhere. Has anyone else heard this?

Hope it’s not true...at least until they get my delivery here.

I don’t see anything online that says this to be correct. That would be a major revenue loss from them if they did.

I ordered some on Friday and I believe they said UPS would be the company delivering my order. I will double check when I get to the office and find out.

I checked online too and didn't see anything on this.

ORM-D SMALL ARMS AMMUNITION SHIPPING ENDING IN DECEMBER
NEWTOWN, Conn. — The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturing Institute, Inc.® (SAAMI®) reminds manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, and retailers they must discontinue the use of ORM-D labeling for shipping sporting ammunitions via surface transport after Dec. 31, 2020. The change in labeling requirements, rendered by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), aligns shipment of sporting ammunition with international standards.

ORM-D — which stands for Other Regulated Materials–group D — labeling was discontinued for air and vessel use in 2011, while its use for highway transport remained. With the final phase-out of this labeling, those businesses that ship sporting ammunition via surface transport modes must now use the new DOT blank limited-quantity mark, seen here, placed on one side of the box.

Firearm industry manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, and retailers must ensure that no packages of Sporting ammunition for surface transportation are marked with ORM-D labels after Dec. 31, 2020.

Existing stock already bearing ORM-D labels should be shipped immediately. It is SAAMI’s understanding that DOT ORM-D packages already in transit on Jan. 1, 2021, will be allowed to continue to its destination without being subjected to enforcement. Businesses shipping qualified parcels after Dec. 31, 2020 without the new labels should expect those shipments to be refused and returned, regardless of the carrier employed for shipment.

In addition to the change in labeling, SAAMI reminds all shippers of ammunition that they and relevant employees are required to have proper DOT hazmat training (49 CFR 172.704) and must use their own experts and legal counsel for decisions made pertaining to the shipping of hazardous materials. could be true 2 nites ago i found a supplier with halfway reasonable large rifle primers 79/1000 and powder 30-35/lb didn't complete my order cause i had to looksee a little more 45 shipping with the hazmat fee brings out the german in me well next day i logged on Big Green webpage no more shipping in store purchase only

Sad Deal

They just discontinued use of a label and now require a different label. I shipped ammo yesterday via UPS.

Say's nothing about any shipping stopping only that they need a new type of label, any out bound now will be delivered those needing shipped have to be held until a new label.

Those not wanting to ship and instore buying only probably have no new labels and are just waiting, but not stopping shipping. Would be my guess !

commercial ammo shipping boxes had the orm-d label printed on them so now they need this diamond label on them.



you can draw that on the box with a black magic marker, 4" x 4".

Just looked on the side of a box of ammo I received 2 days ago via UPS. It has the above label drawn on the side. Approximately 1 inch square.

Just got an email stating my ammo has shipped UPS.
