All water lines are buried below the frost line.As far as in the house goes,,you need to keep heat in the house,,or drain all water lines for winter.Anti freeze is poured into toilets and such.

In this case, the earth six feet down is your friend. Keep the pipes in the home in the heated areas and all is fine.

Re: Saturday Night Temp - 02/14/21 05:03 AM

It's 22F here currently. It's supposed to go down to 14F, but unless it clears up a lot, I think the clouds will hold in the heat and keep it warmer.

No. Your son needs the plow.

On a serious note, you were asking about frozen water lines. If the place does not have good heat leave the faucet open with a small trickle of water running thru it.

Heat trace, its a wire that heats up. Run your waterline, and heat trace inside another pipe,or box, insulate it if you can, and turn it on on cold nights. Put a old freezer or fridge over your well if its sticking up above ground.

Its +18 here in Western Alaska. Was +35 yesterday.

As much as I'm sick of the cold, I'll take it over ice conditions any day!

Re: Saturday Night Temp - 02/14/21 11:16 AM

Supposed to stay warm all day here. Around 2. Its not going negative till after sundown. Im not sure when it is supposed to quit snowing. Sometime tonight I think. Have a little breeze blowing, coming out of the north about 14-15 mph, so need to wear a coat outside.

-22 now and will get colder as it gets closer to daylight. As for the water pipes, just leave the faucets cracked open to a small trickle. As long as there is water moving through, they shouldn't freeze.
