Help me understand-DRESS CODE

Help me understand-DRESS CODE - 02/17/21 07:32 PM

So I went with the wife to a larger town to pickup a few things and run a couple of errands. While waiting in the parking lot I began to notice that people don’t get dressed anymore!!! I guess I missed something, when did yoga pants, lounge pants or pajama bottoms and fluffy slippers and house shoes become the norm. Men and women alike.
If you weigh 300 pounds and it’s mainly in your backside, yoga pants ARE NOT appropriate.

It’s 20 degrees and snow on the ground!!!!

What the!!!!

People don’t really care what others think about the way they dress anymore.

I came home from Mass on Sunday and discussed this subject with the wife. Nearly every women under 50 wore some kind of yoga pants or leggings to church. Certainly not what folks used to call Their Sunday Best, for sure.

300 lb backsides shouldn't be looked at anyways. But I'd like to shake the hand of the man that invented those yoga pants. Most women that wear them give me whiplash.

I think it's worse than that.

They have no pride in themselves and consequently don't care what they look like.

They're victims ya know !

People used to be kinda embarrassed to be fat and unsightly. Nowadays they have lots of company. Strength in numbers.

Ever see some of those Walmart shopper photos?
I saw a very large lady wearing those same yoga pants some of you described. As she walked away from me her butt looked like two cats fighting in a sack.

I really don't. But I have enough self-respect to not wear pajama pants to the grocery store. Plus, PJ pants don't have anywhere to stash my conceal gun and knife.

Practicality and anonymity are my goals in a public setting.

I think It's more about this covid thing. People are working from home and and are dressing that way and being comfortable while doing It. Maybe they are just getting use to It.

I could really care less how one dresses.

Re: Help me understand-DRESS CODE - 02/17/21 08:40 PM

I went with my wife to Minneapolis a few weeks ago.

There were girls pawing girls, boys pawing boys, boys wearing dresses, girls with mustaches tattooed to their top lips.

There was hair every color of the rainbow and many of those as well. People had rings, rivets, and open holes everywhere

It reminded me of years back walking through the carnival at the State Fair

At some point into my gawking, I felt a sharp elbow get driven into my gut. My wife said quit staring at everyone!!
I said how can this be normal? She said when you have to work amongst them, you automatically turn a blind eye.
It's like you don't see them, you get used to them.

I guess I am too old to understand that.

Re: Help me understand-DRESS CODE - 02/17/21 09:03 PM

In my job (pawnbroker), this is the standard fair. Many people don't have to get out of bed to go to work, so there are no standards. The only influence of others is people in the same boat as them. Saturday nights (we only close Sunday), seeing someone come in at the last minute to do their business in their pajama pants gets on my nerves a bit. You know they had nothing else to do all day, and squeaking in before we lock the door doesn't affect them. Glad to have business, but I sure see some sights.

As for myself, I don't pay much attention to how I dress, practical is best. I do feel a bit like a slob with my shirts being too long, but that's just because I carry outside the waistband.

Always said it's not the hat that makes the man, it's the man that makes the hat. Same goes for tight fitting clothes on a women. Jean's or cut-off's look mighty fine on a woman that looks good in yoga pants. Variety is the spice of life.

Re: Help me understand-DRESS CODE - 02/17/21 09:40 PM

Hear me out..... its still a free country people can dress how they want, is it sad thats the way they choose? Sure, but I wouldn't waste to many brain cells trying to figure it out or greiving over the days when people used to wear suits and dresses 24/7

A lot depends on the environment. An example is when I see a President wearing casual dress in the Oval Office it tells me they have no respect for the office.

Had this exact conversation with my Colonel (wife) the other day.

In our family and house, when you wake up, you get dressed for the day. You have a presentable appearance at all times.

Put clothes on people.

Also, make your dang bed.

Oh, and get off my lawn

Same goes for most life skills.

Did my own laundry once I could reach the soap, even bought the dang clothes when I got a job.

No free rides around here.

You don’t work, you don’t eat.

When I was a kid in the early 60s, I never saw either of my grandfathers without a button down shirt, white undershirt beneath, dress pants, and dark dress pants. Half the time they were wearing a tie.

When we were in school, no tee shirts or blue jeans allowed. Had to have button down shirts, tucked into your pants with a belt on, or you could wear a sweater. You wore tennis shoes and shorts for gym class, not worn otherwise.

Look at photos from the 50s and early 60s. Folks dressed up for a dinner, concert or an airplane flight. The hippies ruined everything.

Re: Help me understand-DRESS CODE - 02/17/21 11:59 PM

I think those who came up with the spandex and the idea to make pants out of them
had a money maker, though NASA and the military should get some residuals for the idea, cause them pants
probably could hold back a tank in a hurry as much as they can stretch !!

There is also a limit to what a decent man can absorb watching them being put to such a test !!

I move on when seeing separate skins cells starting to show shape !!

One thing about it......yoga pants or leggings don't lie. Good or bad views, hard to hide the facts.

Re: Help me understand-DRESS CODE - 02/18/21 01:02 AM

Them 300# women don't need to wear yoga pants but they ain't getting cold with all that fat

Whoever started offering yoga pants in anything above a size medium needs to have the mess slapped out of them.

I saw a young lady out in public one day and she might have thought she had yoga pants on but it was definitely black hose laugh

Just because they can squeeze it all in doesn’t mean they should be wearing it in public.

What the heck has happened to 20_30 year old gals?
Back in the mid 80', mid 90's, the majority had tight bod's and looked good.
When did being fat and showing it off become in favor?

Can't say much about the guys either.
Most in the same time frame were in good shape. Now days, seems like looking like a complete nerd is cool?

Used to have a bartender that thought she was all that. She wore leggings and when she walked away it looked like 2 30 lbs pound coons fighting over a ear of corn . Had to drink alot ans still can't get image out of my head. Told the wife and she said be nice ,just don't look then.

Oh it wasn’t just the women I saw. There were several guys in lounge pants and house shoes. One had what looked like pajama bottoms and flip flops on.

It was 17 degrees and 6” of snow on the ground.

I remember being in church one day and a new guy came in wearing khaki shorts. Everybody was complaining about it at a coffee thing after service. Our preacher looked at them and said; "Atleast he was here." Then followed it up by lifting up the bottom of his robe and showing he had jeans on.

As much as a 300lb butt in spandex is unattractive as all get out I would tolerate it over seeing a man with half his underwear hanging out over his pants. Another part of “black culture “ that I don’t understand one bit.

What a candy but is slang for a mule or a back side) you turned out to be. Try a mile milr South Texas in my square toed boots. All of the hot little "local" girls bare it and share it. Short shorts and midriffs stickin out 9 months out of the year and at least 8.5 months of each of their 17 pregnancy's. And yes when I said hot I meant weather temperature-wise. The little gals convert the feed to to tonage way better than a black baldy on wheat pasture. After the 4th of 5th kiddo they can get every bit as wide as they are tall.

My eyes only get a break when it does git cold and they start parading around in PJs or yoga pants that cover up at least part of the cottage cheese whistle
