Archie Bunker
yeah until you learn that the actor who played him was 180* the opposite.
talking strictly tv character and not actor who played the character
Murdoc and the A-team he plaid the part of the loon but was very capable member of the team and could fly anything.
Raylan Givens from justified or Rip off yellowstone

For me I'd say Andy Griffith for a television hero. He always acted with honesty, humility and firm decisions. He represented what used to be great about the average American.

Some great choices. I can't make a choice on screen merit alone, off camera persona carries weight with me. I 2nd the votes for Tim Allen (conservative) Mr T (Conservative, outspoken Christian.) And add Pat Sajak, veteran, conservative.

Mick Belker, "Hill Street Blues"
Bruce Weitz played a very lovable lunatic.
My favorite line is when he was under cover , selling dressed chickens. A snooty older woman picked up a chicken by both legs and sniffed 'the part that went over the fence last' , and said "it isn't fresh".
Mick, responded with "Lady, could you pass such a test?" CLASSIC !

Tons of them come to mind but the old man on pawn stars always cracked me up. Said what he thought , meant what he said. Loved the episode where he was hoarding pennies because the copper value was more than the penny. He had 25 five gal buckets hid thru out the store and warehouse.
