Lifetime license - 03/10/21 12:44 AM

I was lucky enough to buy a Michigan lifetime license when I was 15. Payed the $1050.00 from my rat money. Sure miss how easy it was catch a few hundred rats then and the price for fur. If I remember correctly it was 17 years break even unless fees went up. Glad my Dad thought it was a good deal. Only problem? State already sent my deer tags. You know the story.... I am going to put these right here so I remember exactly where they are..lol

I put my carcass tags in a pocket in my hunting pack that way I always have them when I need them. I just have to remember to take my pack.

Good for you, wise investment. I have an Illinois lifetime sportsmans license that I was given for being the 1995 Illinois Sportsman of the Year. I was very lucky!!

I bought my WV life time Hunting, Fishing, and Trout stamp for $400 back in 1994 before I graduated college. One of the added benefits of the WV life time license was that if I relocated to another state, I could come back to WV and hunt as a resident. The same lifetime license is pushing $1050 now. I just purchased my sons infant life time hunting, fishing, and trout stamp. I think it was pushing $400.

My Lifetime Sportsman License was $300 back in 1983 when the equivalent annual license was around $40. Infant (under 1) was $100 for my youngest son and one grandson. Same license for infant granddaughter 2 years ago was $275 but still a bargain. There is also a reduced rate for seniors, over 70 I believe.

Our lifetime license did not include trapping though. But a couple years ago, we finally managed to get the lifetime trapping license passed through the legislature. It is $300 versus an annual $30 license but no reduced rate for infants or seniors.

The Lifetime License concept with the Endowment Fund was started in NC by one of our Wildlife Commissioners in 1981. It has stood the test of time and has been emulated in many other states. And Mr. Eddie Bridges is still an active supporter of wildlife conservation and has received many awards including being inducted into the NC Sports Hall of Fame in 2019.

A search on Eddie Bridges wildlife management will yield several articles about Mr. Bridges and his forward thinking has had wide ranging consequences for wildlife conservation. I am glad I have had the opportunity to meet and talk with the man who started the lifetime license concept.

We have a senior lifetime license that is very cheap. One thing NC DOW does right.
