10rd ar mags - 03/15/21 04:02 PM

How many use these by choice for hunting situations?

Re: 10rd ar mags - 03/15/21 04:10 PM

sometimes by law more than "choice" if i'm not mistaken

Re: 10rd ar mags - 03/15/21 04:13 PM

Not asking the by law people...this is more for weight, maneuverability, etc.

Re: 10rd ar mags - 03/15/21 04:16 PM

I do. I don't like trying to carry the longer mags. I carry one in the rifle and one in my pocket.

Only once did I wish I had more than 10 shots, but I don't get 5 coyotes in at once very often.

The straight 20s are as big as I go for hunting anything bigger just gets in the way.

I prefer the 10's as they don't get in the way when trying to rest the rifle or dig into your back when slung. I've never needed more than ten rounds. I hope one day I do but when that happens I just have another 10 in my hip belt.

strait 20 fan here

they are only a little longer than the 10 round but don't get in the way with my arm in prone a little more to grip when changing mags

I'll have to get a couple twenties, if I use my ruger for hunting, it's so loud I think I'd like a suppressor

I like the 20 rounders, have a few 30 rounders but just have them as back up or extra rounds. Rarely l shoot more than a mag though while hunting. Sometimes to move rounds from the 30 to the 20 rounder while out hunting.

PS If you ever see me packing 30s better grab yours too, things done gone south and I felt 20 was not enough. wink

I have to use 5 rd. clips when deer hunting. It doesn't matter the caliber. I have yet to use my AR or my Mini 14 Ruger for deer.

I have a 5 round mags for scope tuning/ hunting. 30 mags are for fun steel target blasting.

I also learned the hard way don't load them full
down load by at least one got up in the tree stand one morning and put mag in and try and release it easy I can tell there is a deer in the dark 50 yards out form my stand bedded down. had a full mag , BCG hung up on the first round then after what seemed like forever but was probably only 20 seconds it slammed forward deer got up and moved in the dark , luckily not too far and come fist light he was circling behind me.
don't load any ar mags full any more max of 19 in a 20 , 29 in a 30

I've seen 25 rd mags for AR-10's but never a 30 rd one... Does anyone actually make a 30 rd. 308/7.62 mag?

EDIT: Yes, they make one. I looked months ago and couldn't even find one... This time I found several.

I like the 10 round magazines when using a Bog Pod with the Death Grip clamp. The 10 rounder is just the right size to get the clamp on the magazine well. Provides a square and balanced pivot point for the rifle and adds some height if needed.

Can a 5 rd magazine be any shorter than a 10 rd magazine? The 10 is 3-5/8" tall. Only 7/8" sticks out of the magazine well.

Thanks Pete... I went and looked after my post and found some. Funny thing is a while back I searched and searched and could only find 25's.

After my experience with 40 rounders on AR 15 I came to the conclusion that more doesn't necessarily equate to better.

Can you elaborate on the 40 rounder problems? I have never used them, but have a few 40s just cause I can.

I use 10 rounders when hunting coyotes, don't see the need for 30 round mags or care for the extra weight.

Firing from prone is kind of an ordeal with one. Other than that, no real issues. I had some issues with the followers in mine sticking. But I'm sure that had more to do with quality of the brand rather than the capacity.

Thanks Mike. I figured prone would be out with the 40s, glad to hear no serious flaws other than that. Heck I have seen follower problems with short mags of lesser quality.

For hunting deer and coyotes I prefer the 10rd. For hogs 30 or 40 round.
