New guys - 03/16/21 06:00 PM

Not trying to be mean or discourage any of the new or younger guys from posting but if y'all haven't I highly suggest yall go check out the archives, been seeing alot if questions being asked that are answered in full in great detail in posts that are in the archives. And there's new stuff being moved over there daily so tinker with the settings so you can see most recently added and you could save your self some time . Just saying.

There's enough info there, so you can read til your eyes bleed. Haven't read that much at one time but got close. I'm ashamed to admit when I first came here and was told to visit the archives I couldn't find em.

I ain't ashamed to admit using the archives and search feature for my light reading pleasure. Whether that's to get new ideas or confirm suspicions it's good reading. I also find interesting the species and tactics I'll never experience here.

In all reality pretty much every topic at hand could be found in past posts, wouldn’t be much of a forum if people weren’t asking questions. Ever notice how fur fish and game has basically just been the same articles over and over and over for decades? They just spin the articles a little here and there and put them out at different times of the year.

Some people's comments to the younger members questions are kinda harsh. Lighten up ,they are trying to learn, gonna run them off like some of the female members were ran off by rude comments. There is so much information in the archives, it could be said any new conversation or questions have already been discussed .

I agree, but if everyone who wanted someone’s perspective on something, or opinion on this or that, or just to talk about pros and cons of certain things all just searched the archives...all that would be left on this list of posts would be what your day was like today. I’m not out to offend anyone or start any disagreements, I just believe that this is a free country, and people have the right to converse with real people about the art of trapping...not to just read about another persons conversation

Re: New guys - 03/17/21 03:55 AM

I'm not saying don't post or ask. Not saying that what so ever. What I'm saying is it would probably benifit those asking the questions to check because even if there question is answered it could lead to a better question that gonna get more specific and helpful answers. Asking something like
" Is a bridger 1.5 a good coyote trap" is probably just gonna get you a pretty flat answer , yes no yadda yadda.but if you've checked the archives and read some of the post on the subject you could probably glean " ok so yeah it's not the BEST but it will work ,mabye asking what are some thing I can do to make it work better would be a better question"

Trapping U.Ptrust me I understand what your saying 100% . When I got people telling me to " check the archives " for everything I asked was beyond irritating and it's good to ask because mabye something new has popped up. It's especially irritating when you've already searched and just found old posts from 10+ years ago with missing pictures. "Just go to the archives * is not a answer all deal but at the same time ( especially now stuff is being added more and more frequently) I could help avoid.....conflict persay

I might agree but must say that some of the younger generation could have spent more time awake in school. Grammer matters in when communicating via written language. Also, I wonder why some ask a question just to discount answers given?

Warrior that is why I read my posts over multiple times before posting, or it looks like a very small child with fat fingers is typing.

Re: New guys - 03/17/21 04:08 AM

That’s a good point warrior. I believe that to be a personal decision, and I can not persuade a person asking a question to heed the answers. I’m simply stating my point of view, without try to rub any one the wrong way. I know that I may find the answer to a question I might have in the archives, but I also know that I joined this site because I wanted to be part of a group of trappers that talk with each other about trapping, on a personal level. There are bound to be scuffles, as we are all independently-thinking individuals. Like-minded as we may be we will, eventually, have differences in opinion

It's human nature to evaluate communication. When lazy writing is coupled with attitude, people react poorly.

Young guys, I was there too a long time ago. My advice: Do your research. Be patient. Show sincerity and thoughtfulness with your questions.

Re: New guys - 03/17/21 04:24 AM

Agree with what most are saying, just saying things could be conveyed in a kinder manner.

Example = kid asks - is a Duke 550 strong as a Mb550?
Answer A - Yes, they are very similar in spring strength. By the way, there's a couple posts in the archives about how they compare ,check em out.

Answer B - Geez, kid why the heck are you asking that ? All that is in the archives for crying out loud !

Answer A answer's the question and directs them where to find similar information pertaining to the question they asked , without coming off as a jerk.

For those that may not know how to find the archives. Hit the Hop to button. you will get a drop down menu. Click on the one of choice and enjoy. Way back when I started trapping information was real tight. I would of thought I had died and went to the trappers heaven for the information available in the archives.

Re: New guys - 03/17/21 01:43 PM

You will for sure find more posts about the MB 550 then the Duke 550 mainly because they are so new. Dealing with others on the internet at times requires one to grow some thicker hide. Right, wrong or indifferent it is just the way it is. Many times things are taken different then they were meant by a poster as well. We would all do well to chill a bit before responding.
