Bobcat and Rattlesnake

So there’s a video on fb of a bobcat killing a rattle snake taken by a trail camera. No big deal probably happens a lot. You can tell it isn’t the cats first time. What’s interesting is the cat rubs and rolls where he killed the snake. I’m assuming it’s the snake scent making him do that. Snakes put off a very distinct odor when under stress. If that scent makes cats want to rub much like castor does it might be an effective lure.

I may be wrong but to me that resembles a lynx.

Don’t know if rattlesnake and lynx territories overlap much.

I’ve seen them cross the roads with snakes in their mouths. Always wondered was it by happenstance or do they seek them out?

I feel like I am having Déjà vu we had this same thread I believe minus the pointing out about rolling, and if I'm correct Beav chimed in or another from Wisconsin pointing out the overlap of the timber rattler and the Canadian lynx in central Wisconsin. As for why they roll in the snake smell I like Mr. Whitman's theory on it.

That is definitively a bobcat not a lynx-look at the tail.

Any of yall seen the Jaguar manhandle the south American gator video? A cat is the Apex Predator even if other animals have to become the cats prey to realize it.

I have always wondered how rare it is for a man to fight off a big cat and if the animal was in poor shape or made a big mistake for him to even see it comin for him. I actually hope none of us ever get the answer to that question LOL

What was Mr Whitman’s theory?

That it was just evolution and that a dog just likes rolling in stinky stuff. He can explain it better than I can, it's in his thread on wolves within the last 5 pages I believe.

Lynx don't have the bars and spots.

Interesting video. Cat knows not to get bit, it takes great care to stay away from the fangs. How does it know that? There would be no learning curve for an animal that size bit by a rattler so as to learn by it's mistakes. One dose in the pipes and the cat would be dead. The cat knows its own speed and is nonchalant in killing the snake. It has done this thing before. I wonder if there is something hardwired or buried in the DNA or brain stem of animals that they know certain things like how to kill a poisonous snake; or maybe they learn it from a parent. Maybe a mixture of both.
