Otter Catch Video - 03/17/21 10:45 PM

Added a game camera to a castor mound set for beaver hoping to get a catch on video. Scoring an otter was just as good as I still had one tag to fill. I start out remaking the set after catching a small beaver. Got the catch along with some interesting otter behavior at the mound, a missed beav (because my trap was occupied) and then finally pulling up my catch.

Great video.
Now you know why it pays to set multiple traps at a location.

Ive always contended that folks often underestimate an otters nose. They knew what kind of cologne you were wearing when you set that trap. Very cool video...

I was hoping an Otter pro would chime in on this. I assume he was adding scent to my castor mound or maybe urine???

Nice. I’m kinda hoping for one of those on my beaver line, but no luck so far.

That was outstanding!! Love those Browning cameras too. Is yours IR? Mine glows and it comes into play with some predators and others find it as an attraction and want to check it out.

I was wondering that myself. It did look like a marking the spot episode but would like to hear from the Otter Guys

Yes, the otter was leaving his scent when he did that little dance.

Impressive with your staking setup that the otter was only above water a few seconds and then down the slide. Yes I was wondering the significance of the one otter marking the mound etc. They stayed around longer than one would imagine when we hear about how fast they are and how much area they cover. The late coming beaver sure did not spend much time at the set.

Cool video. Thanks for sharing.

Was that place full of otter sign when you set the trap and caught a beaver? I am amazed a beaver was able to beat those otter to the trap the first time based on how much time they spent around there.

Its a Browning Spec Ops, yes IR. The only critter it seams to bother on occasion is coyotes.

No there really wasn't otter sign that I noticed. There is an active beaver lodge on the other side of the small river just out of frame of the video. The dam is 100+ yards away. I had some homemade castor lure on the mud pile at the takeout/trap is all I did here. (also had that dead beaver laying on shore there too he probably left scent)
