Another Wood score, I think....

Another Wood score, I think.... - 03/18/21 11:40 PM

Went down to see the local sawmiller, that lives just down the road from me. He remembered me from an earlier conversation. Told him I wanted 3x3 Cherry turning stock , Well, he's cutting Cherry in a couple of days , and the price I got for 3x3 x 8 Foot Black Cherry turning stock was $10.00 each. I usually work with Green and air dried stock. Since the old sawmiller I used to get stock from, died some years ago; I am not sure of the current prices. Also is willing to sell 3x3x8 ft quarter sawn Cherry ; at the same price.

That includes free delivery

Anyone know if that is a good deal ?

I was impressed with the quality of the boards he had in stock. Lots of red in the Cherry. quite a few boards had heavy curl and a couple had Birdseye in the Cherry

Length x width x thickness divide by 12 gives you board feet.

About six board foot per stick comes to about $1.65 per bf. That's a darn good deal for cherry.

in 2021 a 2x4-8foot is 5.99 construction stud grade

it would be cheaper for you to build a house out of cherry than doug fur at your wood price

I would say you got a deal

Here in southern KY all the market we have right now for cherry, is chip wood or tie and pallet. cant give the lumber away.

That’s a shame, I love working with cherry.

Great price. I love cherry for all kinds of stuff, but especially for duck and goose calls.

Sounds like you are buying the centers of the cants.
Perhaps turners prefer them?

I was recently told maple and walnut up and cherry down in price.
Probably because I was asking for walnut lol.

2x2 x 8' pine at Home Depot was around $3.50 recently. It makes your cherry stick seem FREE!

Not the centers. Too much unstable wood around the center, He is cutting on the sides, and doing a couple of 3x3's in quarter sawn Cherry. Depending on what is in the log , it should look really nice !
