So If He's paying $8.00 tops on rats. If you had 50 rats how many of them would be In the $8.00 range? It's the same old smoke a mirrors game. You get 3 or 4 rats at $8.00 and that's all anyone can talk about. Looks like the average Is still pretty much the same as It was a month ago.

Re: Sold fur today - 03/21/21 12:00 PM

He jumped his price up at the end so that if FHA has an auction and we see what prices really are he can say they all jumped up at the end.I don`t think the fur markets in any great shape but he didn`t run all over buying up cheap fur because their`s no market at all. He`s a smart business man and took advantage of a really odd time in the fur market.I wonder if you can buy stock in Groney ?

Quit buying groceries at Walmart. You could save 20 bucks at least going to a regular grocery store. Aldi's will save you even more. I don't think you even read advice others give you because if you do you sure don't take it. Better save some of that money too because you will need it at tax time next year if you file. LLL

It is not that way here. They prey on food stamp folks that do not pay for their own food so they really do not care what it costs as long as they can get everything at the same stop.

I am NOT saying Dave (coonman) is on food stamps but am saying he is paying for convenience. I bet he drives right by the grocery store like Aldi's on his way to Walmart. White Trash you are correct. I might as well speak in Greek. He needs to stop trapping also but he won't listen especially now that GFW through him a few bucks more. Stimulus will keep him busy for a few weeks before he pees it away. SMH. Some people you just can't reach. crazy LLL

Re: Sold fur today - 03/22/21 01:11 AM

Dave, grocery shopping is just that--shopping for the best prices.Because of my wifes health issues,I have been doing the grocery shopping for a while.
The bulk of my purchases are at Aldi's,on some items they are almost half the price of the larger grocery stores.Milk, baking products and bread are just a few of the things that are always cheaper at Aldi's. Bread for instance--85 cents a loaf, At times I have bought it there for 49 cents a loaf.I will buy several loaves and put them in the freezer.
But I do go over the bigger grocery stores ad,sale items at times even beat Aldi prices.Meat is often bought at the larger grocery, where family packs are on sale for a real good savings. When I get home the family packs of meat are broken down into 1 meal servings ,rewrapped and put in the freezer.
As an example right now ,pork chops are $1.69 a pound about a buck a pound cheaper than Aldi's. Before I go shopping,I make up a list of what I need and list the sale prices are at ,at the big store.I start out at Aldi and if something is cheaper there than the ad price at the big store--I purchase it.
Making my new lists out right now for tomorrows trip to the grocery store. My wife says I am one heck of a shopper LOL.
Take this to heart Dave-and save.

Very good advice. I do the same. I have a store that will price match everyone else in town if they have it so I save driving all over to get what is on sale. I start at Aldi's though for the basics like milk, produce and cereals, baked goods and spices. LLL

Most trappers focus on out of pocket expenses and don’t consider time expense when calculating profit. Is fur profitable at this time for anyone?
I believe hobby income must be claimed without the benefit of expense write off because a hobby is not considered a business and/or structured for profit?

Aldi is the cheapest on most things..Eggs are usually 60 to 70 cents a dozen.Just finnished looking at aldi and county market ads.Wrote up want lists from both stores. Do your homework and save time and money.
I have found the quality on most things was good at Aldis.

We shop Aldi's for just about all of our groceries. We've found their pork to be excellent. Even their chips and cookies are great and usually about half price or less than the bigger stores.

Don't 4get to claim fur check on income tax next year!

I also record scrap metal hauls, although both my trapping and scrapping are peanuts compared to other people. I record my mileage and that all goes into my combo of micro gigs (mostly on-line selling). Interesting how my costs about exceed my income from them--not really planned but it just works out most years. They haven't asked me to stop because its a "hobby" yet...

SMH. Some people you just can't reach. crazy LLL

Both places probably take food stamps I would think. The only time I stop at it is when I need something quick and am going past it. And there deli fried chicken is the best. They are just about equal distance from the house and walmart wins most of the time. There is an Aldis about 15 miles away, I will have to try it.

I believe hobby income must be claimed without the benefit of expense write off because a hobby is not considered a business and/or structured for profit?

Good point. PIck up another job and most would be money ahead. Trapping is a hobby now (like golf), not a real source of income.

Get a garden spot ready soon, Coonman. It is amazing how much produce you will get off a small plot. I know you have knee problem. Just the soft soil will provide a cushion. Are you still getting beaver? Save all the meat as it is delicious. Even the heart, kidneys, and liver are special in a stew. Save, save, and save some more!

And the first post started off so well. Good prices and I was able to read it. Now not so much. If your planning on putting in a garden better get seeds first.

I'm sure someone in your town you could hire to till you a spot, usually runs $20. Seeds are every where right now at Thiesens, Walmart, etc. Go to recycle place and get newspapers to lay down in between rows and then take all your grass clippings and place on papers. Saves you from weeding.

Take some of your fur money and build a couple raised beds. They will be easier on your knees

I always grow a big garden but I'm fortunate to have the land and equipment. But I have one friend who lives on the side of a steep hill and he grows his garden in 5 gallon buckets on his deck. And I'm talking about probably 10 different veggies all in buckets. Even corn. I'm sure you can find some old buckets for free

I put in a good sized garden,,but also always plant a deck garden in buckets.Cukes,Cherry tomatoes, beans peas, all kinds of stuff. That is so my wife and grandkids can just step out on the deck and pick fresh vegges any time they want.

Best way to save money on groceries. I raised three boys to men, fed countless other families, and ate nutritionally for decades. It takes a little work but I look at it as a way of life as well as a ministry. LLL

Yes the chicken are great. I am a big fan of onion rings as well as sliced tomatoes but I love spinach and cabbage. So many ways to eat cabbage but that is my German heritage coming out there. LLL

Coonman there is no need to spend a lot of money on food nowadays.
There are foodbanks everywhere, you can get lots of free food there.

Re: Sold fur today - 03/23/21 03:36 PM

Let's see! You caught beaver, coon, and rats. You now spent your fur money on food. Seems you already had food, beaver, coon, and rats. 2 out of three of those have more food value than fur value.
