My little squaw's first hooped beaver

We used vine maple for the hoop and it cured for about four weeks in my drying room. It ended up kind of getting pulled in with the lacing so there is not as much space between pelt and hoop as I would have liked. Still turned out pretty good for a first attempt I think.

Definitely an art to the right sized hoop to start with but for the first attempt you did great!

Chris

I didn't do nothing. I just handed her the pelt, the hoop, an awl and some rawhide.

Thanks Mole.

We offered it up for sale at the OTC sale in Klamath Falls but I think the high bid was only $60 so we took it home. Now that she figured out how to do them I figure that I can skin my larges and smaller with tail-on, get them tanned for $25 and then find vine maples to make hoops and have a regular factory. LOL I think it took her a little over an hour to do that one but much of that time was figuring out what she was doing.

Beaverpealer, knowing how many you can stack up, I can see her picking and choosing when she wants to do them. laugh laugh

Looks really good. I make a few every year with my kids and gave a few of them to the land owners I trap for and sold the rest. Never done one with the tail and really like it. [Linked Image]

Jmack, I really like the look of yours. That's what I aim for the next time around is to get that distance between hoop and pelt.

That part was on me.

Nice Boco.

Well, I just heard that the hooped beaver did sell after all. George Kortum bought it after the sale for my asking price.
