FINALLY, found some scrapple

FINALLY, found some scrapple - 03/27/21 07:10 PM

The local places quit selling scrapple and I've been without for a while which stinks cause I loves me some scrapple. DelawareRob was so kind, he offered to send me some if I couldn't find some, thanks Rob! Well, I was out and about and found some. I'm gonna fry it up in my big skillet tomorrow. I'm sure it won't be as good as most or as good as Lugs but nonetheless I'll eat it lol.

I stocked up last time I was in PA. Have to do the same with green chili whenever I'm in NM. Nobody here in KS ever heard of either one. Might as well be looking for boudin balls.

They quit selling it locally here also. I started to make my own and it's pretty easy to do.

Scrapple is better than bacon as a breakfast meat.

There, I said it...

Just personal preference.

I smoked bacon and made scrapple when I was much younger.

Dwayne’s a good guy to work for and they do good work, been about 20 years since I’ve been on the kill floor or anything. But, still get meat from them.

How do you fellas cook your scrapple? We would slice it thin and fry in butter.

Its quite a bit different. I love head cheese, but I’m not sure I would like scrapple so much. Pork liver and cornmeal are two things I don’t care for. I’m assuming the liver taste is prominent. I’ll try it if i ever come across it, I keep my eyes out for it but have never seen it.

coat it in flour before frying, makes it crispy on the outside.I like mine with an abundance of black pepper in mine. You can eat it with maple syrup on top, or Ketchup on top, even with a little hot pepper sauce on the ketchup.

I like it too. Had a buddy that I used to work with, whenever he would go back home to New Jersey, he would bring some back for me. I can't find it around here either.

After they sweep the head cheese floor, that's what they make the scrapple outa.
After they sweep the scraple floor, why, that'll be the hotdogs.
It will all make a turd.

I don’t know anything about scrapple, but yes... green chili. I lived in Colorado for about 5 years and my wife worked at a small family owned Mexican restaurant. I have their green chili recipe smile

Coating in flour helps with this problem after it's been frozen.

Re: FINALLY, found some scrapple - 03/28/21 02:26 PM

Hot tip if freezing it cause it usually goes to pieces afterwards. We slice about 1/4"-1/2" and place between wax paper to freeze. After thawing then coat in flour b4 frying. Try to keep pieces the size of spatula so they are easy to flip.

Re: FINALLY, found some scrapple - 03/28/21 04:16 PM

I can tolerate scrapple. Try to give me sous and we're gonna have problems.

We went to the Capitol diner in Harrisburg and my wife got one order of their fried scrapple. When it came out it was a fight to see who'd get the last piece.

We got a couple orders to go back to the hotel. It never made it.
