Dressed the ol coyote zipper up

Dressed the ol coyote zipper up - 03/28/21 12:27 PM

Really started to enjoy calling at the end of the season specifically at night. Decided to dress up my Ruger American Predator. Sure beats the olive green stock. I’ve got a pistol grip and some mags hung up in customs but when they get in she’ll be ready to get back after them.

Wife didn’t think the new table centerpiece should stay there so I moved it back to the safe.

Indian Creek chassis. Very good guys to deal with. Answered all my questions. Was at my door in five days. I chose the AICS mags. They also have a chassis for AR mags. They have three total end grips depending on what you want to have mounted. I don’t need anything but a thermal so I went with the plain Jane.

Very neat, looks super minimal. Is something like that meant to only be shot out of a lead sled?

No, it's intended to use for hunting, plinking, or on the range. They are supposed to improve the ergonomics and increase accuracy by 20% how they figure that I will never know. I can tell you being able to adjust it to my specifications has improved how it feels overall. It also improves the overall balance of the gun. I believe the one I chose is only 1 lbs 4oz. Minimal is correct it makes them into a skeleton essentially. I ran across them in various thermal predator groups. There's a few options out there for a few different rifles.

Another very common rifle that can be built to specification is the Remington 700. You can buy one bone stock and dress it up pretty nice. Magpul has a very basic chassis that's sold commercially that's not quite as trimmed down as this I like the fact that this one is made 100% in the USA. They sent me hand written directions on the package for the buttstock and typed instructions for the chassis. It was done in 15 minutes from the time I unwrapped the parts.

You probably made it illegal soon by adding that black stock making it scary looking.

I suppose I am a glass half full type of person. I plan to kill as many coyotes with it as I can before that happens and I'm not real interested in not doing it for fear that it might happen. It's definitely improved the rifle it was. Now I just need to upgrade the thermal on top of it which is also in the plans.

I also am working on making a little Ruger precision .17 into a thumper as well although it came pretty nice stock.

Oh Danny, let me help you.

Here's the Indian Creek for your 700:

There's also a lot of different chassis choices for 700 inlet on this site. If you go up to the Chassis systems there's different types for what you intend to do:

Tell your bride she's welcome from me smile

I've quickly figured out the chassis world is very similar to the thermal world. You can spend $500 or you can spend $1000's. There's a little bit of something for everyone at every level.

My wife is barely 5 feet tall. That might work John since all those rifles have an adjustable pull length grin

Mags and pistol grip came in today. Feed a little rough I’m sure it’ll improve as I break them in. AR grip on with one simple screw. Life is good. She’s ready to start zipping again. I don’t think I’ll ever need 10 shots but if I do they’re there.

Only worked half a day today. Been working on this expensive raccoon killer. Finally have it all put together. Looks similar but a bit different to the .223 I plan to site this puppy in this weekend. I figure if it doesn’t pay to trap them I can at least enjoy controlling them.

Ruger precision .17 with a night vision scope. I opted for night vision over thermal for more precise aiming. Hate to let that flat trajectory go to waste.

Now the only thing it's missing is a can on the front. Looks good Wade.

Re: Dressed the ol coyote zipper up - 04/10/21 11:52 PM

Didn’t take too long.
One shot zero on each, to be sure threw a few more down. The .17 is dead on at 50 and 100. I put the .223 an inch and a half high at 100. That puts it dead on at 50/200.
That .17 is a real tack driver once I put the sun shade on the night vision. What a blurry mess before hand.

What .17 is it. I take it a HMR? You should get a .17 centerfire. The HMR is about the bottom of the pot when it comes to 17's

Re: Dressed the ol coyote zipper up - 04/11/21 11:35 AM

Yes it’s the Ruger Precison, HMR. I’ve had nothing but great luck with HMR personally in the past with other guns. I intend to kill raccoons with it and in the past they’ve done quite well. I’ve also always been a ruger fan. I’ve beat up so many of their guns and they just keep going bang. I wanted something outside basic, I have a lot of their basic rifles. As with everything right now ammo availability was also an issue. I have a local store still selling the HMR at cost which was very appealing. I swing by the store after I leave the clinic and buy a few boxes here and there. I’m up to 1500 rounds now.

I do intend to put on an aftermarket IR on it. I don’t really know why. This one should be plenty for what I intend to use it for. If the random coyote shows up for the show I don’t think I’ll have any questions about going for the head within 100 yards. There was a 15 mph wind yesterday and I still kept it pretty close.

I do already want to upgrade the thermal on the .223 but it’s also been consistent. I’ve been looking at some other options but for now this one will do.
