Hernia repair 3 weeks out. - 03/28/21 09:36 PM

Ok guys I had 3 hernias open repair on Mar 5 . IT HAS BEEN ROUGH. That is an under statement . Both groins have mesh inserted amd the belly button was just sewn as it was small. Problem is only one has to be hurting to ruin my day. Some days I have pain. but feel decent. BUT other days no pain from any site but feel like crud !! Sleep most of the day I feel bad. But no fever and surgeon keeps saying 8 weeks because of open repair and 3 at once.
Got to feeling good one day and took off my supporter as it was rubbing right ontop of the 18 inches of stitches across my belly. BIG mistake By that afternoon felt like someone hit me with a baseball in the puppies.
But day to day and feeling better each morning longer thru out the day.....

It took well over a year to get the full use of my stomach muscles just getting off the couch took a lot of effort, I felt like a turtle stuck on a curb. Good luck.

I guess I'll find out at some far future date.

I don't think sage will help as a preventative.

You sound like you are experiencing what I went through. The first couple of weeks I slept for 20 hours a day. My wife was concerned, but the surgeon assured her all was well.

He said what ever I did, not to get behind on my pain meds. She woke me up every 4 hours and made me take them. Some claim they don't believe in pain medication but I can't imagine getting through it without them. It was a bear being on them.

Wishing you the best!

They claim 80% of all men have one but may not know it. The ones in the groin area is a fault in the way the male embryo developes. I was told lol. BUT surgeon told me it would be rough doing all 3 at once but he gave me a choice get it over with or suffer one at a time. I chose get it over with. Just hard for me to feel good one day then the next go backwards even tho I just sit around all day. It was 9 days after surgery before me first good day. Got out side walked to mail box and then slept for 2 days because it wore me out. PLUS mine was OPEN repair and that adds time to recovery.

Had 1 11 years ago. Mesh turned loose on 1 side and got on the nerve going to my right gonad.
Fit comp for 16 months, all they wanted to do was give me pain pills and nerve pills.
Finally told them i was done with them and went and had it repaired, new mesh and removal of
right gonad. Dr that done the second 1 said that it made hamburger out of the nerve. Still hurt a little everyday but so much better than that 16 months.
I was going to tell you about it but figured you needed it fixed and didnt want to scare you.
It'll get better over time but take it easy...

Yea have lightning bolt shoot out right nad every once in awhile LOl. But the surgeon that did mine is supposed to be one of the best . Less than 1% reoccurrence rate on hernia repairs

..

A buddy of mine just went through that a couple months ago. He had both sides done about 25 years ago, and the mesh came loose. He had heart surgery 4 years ago and the Doctors were positive his problems stemmed from that surgery. He just turned 84, I was sure every time I visited him it was going to be the last time, thing is, he did too. I couldn't believe when I stopped in to see him a week ago.He was out in his yard raking and dragging a tarp around. He said he couldn't remember the last time he felt this good.

After walking bent over for about 3 years, no stretch in my stomach, I had to go to a back cracker
several times.to stand up.straight. A man don't know how good it felt to just stand up straight.
And to be able to be upright without hurting so bad. Thank the LORD I can walk now without being in bad pain.
Comp tried to give me a payoff but I told them no thanks, I'm done with you.

2 500mg Tylenol or acetaminophen every 6 hours. Raise arms or whatever you can do for exercise while seated to keep a bit of strength.

I’ve had both groin hernias repaired. The left side done 50 years ago and never have had any problems with that side since. The right side done about 15 years ago, repaired with mesh. Big mistake, I have had problems ever since on that side. I would never allow mesh placed inside me again. Went back to the quack Dr. and he told me there was a nerve caught up in the scare tissue. What a bunch of BS. The mesh shrinks over time and that is the problem.

I heard the open method is rougher to recover, I had the three little holes type of surgery, after six weeks I was good, been lifting 150 lb stuff

I had two. Takes close to a year to totaley heal. Sneezing or coughing is the worst part of your day. Good luck don't look back!!

I feel like that most days (especially the stuck turtle part), but I haven't had any surgeries. I do play it off fairly successfully though.
