The doc told me today

The doc told me today - 03/30/21 02:03 AM

xrays showed my hips and knees are wore out. Too many yrs kneeling in the dirt in an extreme occupation and extreme lifestyle. I have been telling them for 5-6 yrs something wasnt right but today the x-rays said it all. Surviving leukemia and diabetes 11.5 yrs now the body goes. The humid climate here with the cold really makes me stiff. I had super humidity in asia but it was HOT humidity. I felt good. Did manage to run with the boy and his dog a bit today, but thats a rarity. Time will tell.

People who run for fun have had too easy a life.
And they drop dead constantly.
Doesnt seem worth it to me.
Running destroys joints as well.
High-mileage folks aint in a hurry to go anywhere.

Going to have both Hips and both knees replaced at the same time ?

Just looked it up. It's about 6 to 8 weeks between hip and knee surgery.

Re: The doc told me today - 03/30/21 03:59 AM

Looks like maybe you have a young grandson (son's I presume)? If so, I hope they live close, so they can take their ol man next season! Teach what you know, and maybe you can get a bunch of free labor, and reap the same rewards (I always feel more reward when my young sons do something I can do)! It's the cycle of life really, just enjoy your time, and be patient! Best regards!

Ron thx,,I have never been sensitive to pain.......its just the mobility isnt there anymore. Cant kneel, knees wont bend etc...hips burn alot and knees click loudly everytime i get up. Trapping professionially in cold and hot,,did this to alot of guys I worked with. Drs. Cant believe I dont feel pain with this leukemia etc. 34 broken bones,5 surgeries to date and golden glover and streetfighter from the go,bucking broncs, motocross, mma, football, everything extreme guess I just tune it out.

Re: The doc told me today - 03/30/21 01:55 PM

day one tell the therapist you intend to do every rep of what they tell you to do so they need to stop you before you over do it but push hard then what ever the therapist tells you to do doo 100% every rep.

if you did all that crazy your lucky your knees are the only thing worn out

Steve,,,look up the movie "Paradise Alley" That will jog your memory of Lee Canalito.LOL,,,Greg fought him in I think the late 70s and lost in a "decision" Canalito even said about Sorrentino "He was hard to hit" Fast on his feet as he was with his hands.

Ain’t that the truth. Both my knees have been bone on bone for ten years now. I can still hobble. But the uneven ground in the woods/fields tears me up.

Re: The doc told me today - 03/31/21 01:09 AM

Get cortisone shots in your knees until it don’t work then get new ones. I was as bowlegged as you can get and finally got a new one three weeks ago. After the first week it’s a breeze, walking around without a cane and feel better every day. Only thing is my new knee leg is straight as an arrow and my other leg bowed. Looks kinda funny but at this point in my life I am not trying to impress anyone.

Re: The doc told me today - 03/31/21 01:17 AM

Both knees replaced. 1st one 5 years ago did not turnout well. Scar tissue got me. Even with 120 days of therapy. 100 degree range of motion. Need 120. Left hospital on pain pills and still on them. Left knee turned out good 3 years ago. 128 degrees of motion. You have to hit therapy hard I mean from the day after surgery for 1 year. If you don’t You will stiffen up after never get your rage back. MD

Thank you west river rogue. Your son is one cool dude!
Luekemia sucks...and I do miss running for fun, too. I was doing 2 to 3 marathons a year before this and I have 26 of them under my belt now. At least my heart is strong as (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) going in. My baseline cardio gram and ekg showed ZERO calcium or other buildup in any of my valves or arteries and a very strong heart for 55 years old. Running regularly is a great thing. And when a side effect of a chemo drug is how it can impact the heart...a strong heart is so important.
Am going to try to start running again here if my first week measurements all look good in next several days after taking chemo pills every 12 hours to start. I signed up for a couple half marathons this year to give me something to work toward, too. Usually I do all my running in wee hours of morning when nobody in my family is up yet so I don't cut into their day or into my work. It takes dedication and focus to grindout 10 miles and be home by 6:30AM before my family needed to be up for school and work. Even at my slow 10 to 11 minute a mile pace it takes some getting up early to do that.
