RWS Diana .177 in either a 48 or model 34 - 04/01/21 06:38 AM

I'm thinking of getting a RWS Diana .177 in either a model 48 or model 34 for trapline use. Will they do the job? Do you have one?

Muzzle Velocity and pellet weight is what you need for it to work. I would rather have a 22 cal. myself. There is a lot of difference in a 177 and 22 cal. I shot a 25 cal. and that was a big step up from the 22 cal. for pest control.

I am wondering same thing? I killed 416 coyotes last year with 22 rifle. The RWS Diana 34 in 22 caliber pellet has some grear reviews. About near 5 stars every where. Its spring piston as opposed to gas piston. Here is something to consider. Spring piston = 10000 shots life. Gas piston is 3000 shot life. The RWS Diana 34 is spring piston. Lots of guns have 7ooo shots plus on them on airgun forums. Afew have 10000 plus. Just something to think on , when buying a 400 dollar air rifle. I may get one soon. Because of rising 22 rimfire cost

I had an RWS model 48 in 177 caliber. I shot squirrels at 30 yards that usually amounted to a quick kill.
I wouldn't recommend it on the trapline for a couple of reasons. There's a big difference in dispatching squirrels vs coon or coyotes. Maybe as MJM says, the 22 cal might be better.
The other thing is it's so much handier to carry a handgun on the trapline than a rifle. I carried a revolver in 22 shorts, longs, or long rifle standard velocity.
