Its a good start. NIce you get that many tags out there.
I quit hunting turkeys the last one I killed years ago and said to myself "Crap...now I have to eat this awful thing".
I see them buzzards picking along with the crows in my dead pile....but good to shoot them nonetheless.
I see USDA are now shooting them as a nuisance animal.

They are so thick he is clubbing them with a hoe? Never heard of a 20 gauge hoe.
Turkeys can put a hurtin on a stack of alfalfa bales during a winters' time.

A guy could get scratched up if he took a nap! Took this last fall I’d guess 3 big groups gobbling at sunup today.

Not bad eating we chislic them here with Golden Dip then sear in hot oil, that keeps the little moisture that’s in the meat and tames any wild tang some might have. They sell Golden Dip here in #4 boxes just for that use.

Congrats! I prefer wild turkey over store bought any day of the week. Wild birds seem to be juicer and better tasting than butterballs.

Way to go!
Our season starts in three weeks. I'll be heading to camp and chasing them thunder chickens all around the endless mountains of north-central PA.

Re: 1 of 7 - 04/11/21 06:00 PM
Years past we had 150 in that area then the numbers crashed but we still had huntable numbers now they are in a lot of places. I’m seeing them at the smaller farmsteads often when they disperse during the breeding season they can end up anyplace. I prefer hunting when we have less birds and you work for them once these birds brake up you will be tripping over them.
Nice tom. You should have a face cord of turkeys by season end with 7 tags.
Save one for me, I'll be out there next Sunday!

Re: 1 of 7 - 04/15/21 01:56 AM
Well I’m blaming you Law Dog...my son called today and said he wanted a Merriam. I need one more to complete my second Royal and a buddy of mine needs one to complete a single season Slam, so off to NM we go May6-10! All details ironed out in about an hour, including airfare and a rental car. I’m normally one to plan things out a year in advance, but this post and my son wanting to go just pushed me to my breaking point, lol.

Cold wet mess here this week so far the roads turned to butter. Seen a pile in WY strutting but not super hot yet. Seen a few walk off into the trees on the S.D. side I’ll try them tomorrow.

Re: 1 of 7 - 04/15/21 04:40 PM
I could swing a hockey stick and get 3 here! I screwed up and fed some a year ago, now they scratch up any thing I plant, I heard of a local rancher that had this same problem so he kept feeding them till he fed em in the barn, slammed the barn door ,backed up the horse trailer scred em in there and drove em out in the hills and released them!
