Spend the money or stick with my #4 jumps? What say ye wise men of Trapperman?

I always experienced a fairly high percentage of misses with my 4 jumps. I can’t use the TS 85 here, but there are lots of traps better than 4 jumps in my opinion.

You should take a look at mb 750s or wcs 7.5.I own 1 TS85 and that’s one to many.

I'm a CDR 7.5 and Bridger #5 guy, personally.
if they were tripped, a beaver was waiting.

I think it catches to high and causes missing. 7.5 inch traps are better.

Two of the worst beaver traps ever made, IMO. These suggested by others are much better. I love my MB 750s.

We have no trouble with 750 sized traps. Can't say that for ts85's. I'd even pick the #4 jumps over them.

I never cared for jumps for beaver traps because they are a somewhat directional trap. Fine on a castor mound set where you know which direction that the beaver is coming from, not so great on a spillway set when he could be coming either way. Still I caught quite a few beaver in them, they were my least favorite trap so I set them any place I was worried about someone stealing traps, and they work. Also jumps are a pain to set when standing knee deep in water. I prefer longsprings for ease of setting and bedding.
I've never seen the need for a 7 1/2 jawed trap, much less an 8 1/2 for beaver. #4 is my prefered size.
Still I use modified four coiled, offset and laminated TS-85s for wolves so I'm happy there are plenty of beaver trappers that like them to keep production up and cost down.

The 14 jump Is a awesome beaver trap.

Speaking as someone that has tried TS 85, Bridger 5, and MB 750 the 750 excels. The way the trap sets with both jaws held rigid makes it bed really well and less likely to have a loose jaw flip up. As has been mentioned I too have had some empty TS 85's and not to say it's all issues with that trap because I have caught beaver with it, I'll say I have yet to pull a fired 750 that didn't have a beaver in it!

You guys should qualify your opinions-don't mean much without. How many beaver have you caught to form an opinion. 6--50-300? If you never missed a beaver in a 750 but only caught 50 or so in a season it doesn't mean a whole lot. I've had sprung traps of all sizes over the years including 750's and never blamed the trap! I guess it boils down to using what you have confidence in.

Well I was catching 250+ beaver In a 2 month period for about 12 years. I used 330s for the most part but did have 2 doz MB 750s. When The TS 85 came out I decided to try some of those. Well I have had some sprung and empty 750s over the years but not many. Then came the TS 85 sure I caught beaver In them but the empty traps out weighed the ones that caught beaver about 10 to 1. Most of those empty traps were down at the end of the slide wire. So that tells me that the beaver was caught and pulled out.
Don't ask me why It happened I never wasted my time trying to figure It out I just 86ed the whole lot and never owned another one.

Amen to that.Lot of guys complain about sprung traps with jumps,I had more sprung traps using
no.4 longsprings. I once used No.48 Newhouses,still use No.4 Newhouses,44 Blake and Lamb,you'll get snapped traps with all of them,if your honest.I got some Ts85s,I like them myself,plan on getting more.

Add me to the list of guys who have had far too many sprung and empty TS85's. Love my MB 750's and now have some KO beaver extremes to try just for the heck of it. I sold my TS85's after giving them a fair trial and comparison.

At a convention I bought one each, a CDR, a MB750, a CDR, and a Bridger #5 DLS.

I ended up ordering more CDRs and will probably be needin more Bridger 5 DLS

I'm looking forward to trying the Duke 850's that will be available later this year. I wouldn't buy others yet until I see how they stack up.

So why are so many people having spring TS-85 with no catch?

I'm thinking the lock up Is the problem. A large higher jaw configuration and typically short spring levers would cause poor lock up. But I don't have a trap to look at so I can't be sure If that's the problem.

I never had a problem not catching.I didn’t like the way the dogless pan hooked on the rounded jaw.The pan had to much travel for my liking and by the time I fixed it I found other traps more to my liking.CDR-7.5 and MB750.The juries still out between those two but I have my hands full so not buying anymore anytime soon.

Do you know if both jaws will be held down on the Dukes like they are on the MB-750s Jayme?
