Seriously, that's a Dekay's Brown Snake, a harmless bug eater. I just started a week's gig of snake wrangling for a local studio.

Haha! My wife called a while ago while I was at the gym and said we have a “cobra” in the back yard!! I told her it was a hognose snake and to leave it alone. She called again worried and I told her to just get a stick and move it and it’ll play dead. Forgot to tell her it would crap everywhere and stink to high Heaven, but she quickly learned lol. I don’t kill snakes for the sake of killing them. Plantation work is one thing, everywhere else is completely different.

Aint no hognose inside the perimeter, unfortunately. If I could get one here to put on a display I could probably double my fees. LOL

Hognose are about the only snakes I’ve seen this year, but I really don’t look for them ever since I started wearing snake boots 365 days a year. Them cottonmouths make a fella purchase some good boots, lol.

Just scooped up a ringneck. At least it's technically venomous.

Those brown snakes and even ring necks are great to start kids off with in terms of handling snakes. Docile, and never bite.

Quite unlike fox, garter, and especially the black water snakes who wont hesitate to latch onto you.

Ringneck bite can kill a kingsnake, believe it or not.

Ignorant and wrong, also illegal in many areas.

Hognose=Cobra when I was a kid laugh

Guy that works for me was grilling, said he felt something on his big toe and looked down to see a snake latched on. Said he about had a stroke until he realized it was a hognose.

The older folks called them "spreading adders" when I was growing up

OP I would catch those little snakes bare handed for 4 figures laugh

Bigger snakes I don't want to mess with much

I used to catch Dekay's snakes by the hundreds every summer, just to keep for a day or so and observe. They are a tame little snake and don't seem to mind handling at all.
Apparently there are a fair amount of hog nose snakes here, but I have never seen one myself.
Cool pictures, I was quite obsessed with reptiles and amphibians as a kid... everywhere I went I had a pail or an empty peanut butter jar for collecting "specimens" LOL and was wearing my black and red rubber boots in case I encountered a good crayfish/tadpole pond or ditch
