RA and diet - 04/28/21 01:20 AM

Ive gotten a lot of PMs from guys that either have RA or know someone who does. Instead of sending dozens of PMs, Im going to post some links and information here. Im NOT a doctor, Im an EMT with RA. Ive done a ton of research, and this is what works for me, and thousands of others. The most important thing I learned early on in the research I did was that scientists have come to believe that autoimmune disease starts in the gut. This triggers an immune response that can cause all sorts of problems, but inflammation is the big one. Diagnoses isnt easy for doctors, because there are so many things that have similar symptoms. The key to my diagnoses was inflammation in the blood work, and a lot of joint damage in my right wrist. They eventually X-rayed every joint in my body, and luckily only my right wrist was affected. When I started having symptoms, my wrist felt like someone had a blow torch to it. Day and night it never stopped. Then I started having the same pain in both knees, and both shoulders. I was trapping at the time, and couldnt even skin. By the time they did the blood work I pretty much knew what I had, the blood tests just confirmed it. They wanted to put me on prednisone and methotrexate. Both nasty drugs that I knew all about from my EMT work. Thats when I started doing some research.

The first person I found was Mikhaila Peterson. Heres a link. Find her podcast or read her blogs. https://thenetline.com/a-look-at-mikhaila-petersons-life/

That led me to these doctors in Hungary. They have done more work with diet than any doctors Im aware of. https://www.paleomedicina.com/en
I follow their diet. I eat meat and fat. Yes animal fat. I believe the fat is the key for me.

Dr Ken Berry's book " The Lies my Doctor Told Me" is a book everyone should read. He also has a lot of short Youtube videos that are very informative.

https://drberry.com/

Phil Escott wrote a book specifically on arthritis that anyone with it should read. He also has a FB group, podcast ect. https://www.carnivorecast.com/podcast/phil

Low Carb down under has a lot of good videos by world renowned doctors as well. Anyway thats my story. There is plenty of evidence out there that a low carb, or better yet zero carb diet can help many metabolic diseases. In my case I have scientific proof it works because I just had my blood work done two weeks ago. The inflammation is gone. RA is no fun, and its something you need to get under control if you have it. Studies show that 60% of those people that get it are in a wheelchair within 10-years, and it lowers your overall life expectancy by 10-15 years. I feel better now than I have in years, and I take no meds of any kind. Hopefully this will help someone else. My thoughts were, I would rather try changing my diet than start taking the drugs that any way you look at it are only masking symptoms and ruining your liver.

I've started developing it in my wrists and ring finger and middle finger on both hands.
A few weeks ago my RA Dr. tried prednisone, thankfully that didn't do a thing. After researching the drug I found it has so many terrible potential side effects no one in their right mind would want to take it.
Then my Dr. tried hydroxychloroquine. It's almost like a miracle, it reduced the pain in my wrists by about 95%, maybe more. Doctor said no one has any idea why it works.
Your diet information is interesting though.

They are, so are potatoes.

I've had RA for years. Now that I know I have it, I recognize the symptoms of it when I was in my teens. What I have affects my spine. But found out I had RA after having flare ups in my eyes. I take Humira now It has been a game changer. I exercise, try to eat well, but live a pretty ordinary life. Before humira, it felt like I was pile drived every day. I had anemia, which is no joke. But I am going to look into these diets you guys have listed. As far as stopping eating tomatoes, that's not happening.

Thanks for this post Yukon

I was researching RA and diet just last night

I don't know if I have RA or something else going on with my knees . The pain and restricted mobility started in one knee last summer and then into the other knee shortly after . After I struggled to get moving each morning I could get through the day pretty good . By the end of the day I was struggling again . This went on for about 3 or 4 months and was especially aggravating during archery season . It all eventually went away for a couple of months until recently . Just one knee so far .

I'm too stubborn to see the doctor , so for now I'm working on self diagnosis and changing my diet

Very interesting. I'm glad you got it under control. Fibro and seizures have a similar diet of low carbs high protein and animal fat. Had severe epilepsy as a young child. With my fibro and sinus issues I've eliminated a lot of dairy products and only eat limited eggs and certain cheeses like mozzarella. Dairy products are inflammatory foods. Even a little cheesecake will cause my inflammation to immediately skyrocket.

RA normally will mirror image opposite joints. If its in your left knee, then the right can/likely will follow suit. That is how my rhumy explained it to me.

^^^^^^
Interesting, I hadn't heard that. It would explain why I have it in middle and ring finger on each hand, and in both wrists; a little more noticeable in right hand though.

Scout1 is dead on. Usually if you have it in one joint it will hit the same joint on the opposite side soon thereafter. Thats actually how they used to diagnoses it. That didnt happen with me luckily. Think I got it under control fast enough maybe.

Antigov, one of the symptoms of RA is stiffness in the morning. Hope you get it under control

Try drinking 4-8 oz. Of cold pressed Aloe juice daily for a spell and let us know if it helped. Helped an old friend years ago.

I'll have to look at the links later, but even at 33 years old, I've.found that if I hurt a joint at work, drinking a glass of my homemade pork stock (lots of.collagen and fat in it) helps it heal.

I have severe food allergies and gastrointestinal issues. I have seen doctors all over the United States and the Mayo Clinic.

I switched to the carnivore diet 2 years ago and it completely changed my life. Inflammation and all of my other symptoms have disappeared. Tests are coming back great and life is good!

Thats awesome. I believe in another 10-years it will be mainstream. Lots of studies have been done already, and there are thousands of people like you and me with the same story. 45-years ago when they told us animal fat was bad, was the worst thing they ever did. People started to get fat and sick right after that and the food pyramid and daily recommended amount of carbs is responsible for a lot of sickness.

Interesting stuff Yukon. Thanks for sharing.

A couple of years ago I thought maybe I had RA. It turned out to be PMR, another autoimmune disorder also with inflammation and genes being involved. I did prednisone which was a life saver and now am totally weaned off of them for the last year.
