Wife's arm is rotting off

Posted By: loosegoose

Wife's arm is rotting off - 05/03/21 02:41 AM

Not really, but kinda. A couple days ago one of the nasty cats got out, and my wife went out to shoo it back in. When she grabbed the cat, the foul beast freaked out and clawed her up, and she fell into a thorn bush of some sort. She didn't think much of me t at the time, but woke up the next day with a fever and a red spot the size of a baseball. She went to the doctor and she's on two antibiotics, but it keeps getting bigger and nastier. She's going to have to go back to the doctor in the morning, and likely get put on IV antibiotics. Nasty stuff. She could use prayers.

Had a buddy that caught the flesh eating disease from a new made in China workboot.
They marked his foot (like your wife) and waited a few hours to see if the inflamation/discolouration was progress ing and how fast.
They noticed it progressing and put my buddy on IV antibiotics and that got it under control.
He completely recovered with no lasting effects.
It looks like the inflamation is not progressing past the marks on her arm.
God bless for full recovery.

If anything even begins to look "not good," the docs are gonna hook her up - to some IV meds. Pseudomonas aeruginosa and MRSA are no light matter.

Looks very serious. I hope she can make a complete and rapid recovery. Was it caused from the cat scratches or the thorns?

Hope she's doing better and still alive and well. I'd find a nice place in the garden for the cat!

My brother contracted "Cat Scratch Fever". I remember he said his lymph nodes swelled quite a bit.

If she was bitten, rabies shots are in order.

Please tell me you at least killed off all the cats.

Re: Wife's arm is rotting off - 05/03/21 08:49 PM

Got bit through the knuckle from my daughters cat when I picked it up...cause it was in a too public of a spot for my intentions..
within an hour that finger swelled up like a hotdog, antibiotics finally stopped it but it took awhile...plus, i had to quarantine the darn cat cause bites get reported here....
I would keep a close eye on that infection, things can go bad way faster then imaginable

Re: Wife's arm is rotting off - 05/03/21 09:12 PM

The doc says her blood work is fine, so even though it looks nasty, just let the antibiotics do it's thing for now and keep an eye on it. Not getting any bigger at least.

Only seen one case personally. A cat bit mom on top of her hand and within an hour she had infection symptoms and a fever. Mom was in her 90s. Happened at a beauty parlor where a cat was not supposed to be inside.

Re: Wife's arm is rotting off - 05/04/21 01:21 AM

Reading the initial post, I think the thorn bush got her, not the cat. I do not cat scratch fever is real because one of my kids got it when they were young, and we didn’t even have a cat.
We now have a cat and she bites me daily, but never really breaks the skin and rarely draws blood.

Looks like the thorns got her good.Good luck ole boy to you and her.Looks like that smarts.

Re: Wife's arm is rotting off - 05/04/21 01:46 AM

It wasn't a pyracantha bush was it? If so, it looks like the thorns went deep. "Pyracantha is Latin for "Fire Thorn". They will cause what your wife is experiencing. They have an irritant which really lights you up. Combine that with multiple, deep puncture wounds and your tissue tends to freak out.
I am praying that it is the thorn and not from the cat.

I hate cats!! Hope your wife recovers quickly. And if it was the bush that broke her out I'd still blame the furball

i seriously doubt that. Cat bites and scratches are nasty and can easily kill you. My wife works at the hospital and a couple times a year they always get usually a lady that got stratched or nipped by a cat and its always bad business. Those pics look serious. I have had MRSA a couple times a long time ago back in basic training. it looks similar in the beginning.

Re: Wife's arm is rotting off - 05/04/21 04:17 PM

My wife was bitten by a stray cat that she foolishly picked up. She got a nasty infection, had to undergo rabies shots, and took lots of antibiotics. She's fine, but it was touch and go for a while.
Hopefully, everything will go well for your wife and she makes a quick recovery. Prayers sent.
