Fish antibiotics

So this thing with my wifey's arm has me thinking. If she hadn't have had access to medical care and modern medicine, she'd probably be facing a civil war style bite-a-leather-strap amputation or death. There was no way on earth that thing would heal on its own. I know some people buy store fish antibiotics for prepped shtf (weird term, I know) type situations. Now, I know it's not good enough to just buy some.some fish penicillin or fish amoxicillin and stick it on the shelf and be good to go. Certain antibiotics are used for certain infections, and one has to know the proper medicine and the proper dose, for the proper infection.
Has anyone ever looked into keeping this stuff around in their stash of zombie apocalypse supplies, and more importantly, is there a way to learn to administer antibiotics short of going to medical school? Like an "antibiotics for dummies" book?

Whenever I had an issue and needed amoxicillin, I never took it all. I saved a couple. Times when I felt bad, more than just a cold, I'd take one or two that were left over and knocked out whatever was going on and saved a trip to the doc. I don't recommend it as I am not a dr., but it worked for me.

If you have a lot of animals, it would be useful to have some on hand.

They contain:

+ Norfloxacin – a broad spectrum antibiotic that treats bacterial diseases, including Salmonella, E.coli etc.
+ Ronidazole – same as Ronivet, for the antiprotozoal to treat trichomonas, hexamiter, giardia.
+ Diclazuril – the coccidiostat
+ Doxycycline – as a Chlamydia treatment

You can buy them cheaper straight from Australia, but it takes about a month to get them.

I've heard tell that fish antibiotics work well for abcessed teeth but don't quote me on that.

There are some books on this issue. A lot of preppers stock up on fish antibiotics.

The advantage of fish antibiotics is that no prescription is needed. It is often cheaper to buy the same antibiotics with a prescription, particularly in bulk from veterinary supply places. This is how I buy all my dog antibiotics like amoxicillin, cephalexin, tetracycline, metronedazole, etc. When my vet retires shortly I may not be able to get another one to write me bulk prescriptions, so then I may have to go back to buying fish botics.
Often the veterinary antibiotics when bought in bulk will say "for human consumption only" on the bottles, vets just put them in smaller bottles that say, "for veterinary use only", exact same pills. Fish antibiotics are also the same, just without a prescription and a smaller selection of antibiotics available.

If you can trust the internet....you can look up dosing for various antibiotics, and what is their best usage for...I'd try the various med, hospital sites first...


I can get wormers cheaper then the catalogs or vet sites from Fishmox, , just need to figure the dose, which if I recall they give you.

The first batch I used on myself were 200bmg and online the human dosage was 1 pill 3 times daily (600 mg). Then I found 500 mg and online the recommended human dosage would be twice a day- these worked much better for me.

The next time I had an ailment but only had the 200 mg pills I took 4 daily (800 mg) and they worked much better.

I have never used myself, but have a dog that has Lymes and Earlichia and I've used Fish Doxy to treat him when he has a flare up quite successfully.. FWIW

I have also used the fish mox myself to fight sinus infections. I had a yearly issue and knew my diagnosis and self prescribed. Worked fine and didnt need a doctor nor a prescription.

fishmox, comes in pill form and comes in same dosages as from a doctor. you can get 250mg or 500mg. i get the 500 mg. if you know any dairy farmers they usually have amoxicillin in pill form also. most dairy farmers that i knew all bought lots of it and all used them themselves.

I find it slightly humorous when re-ordering the lady will ask me how my fish are doing.

That's dangerous and horrible. People doing this is why there are antibiotic resistant strains now.
