Nebraska turkey down - 05/13/21 03:49 AM

3rd day out since last week finally connected. Had one (maybe same bird) at 55 yards last week. Today We saw him struttin on a hillside and walked in above him. Sat up probably 300-400 yards from where he had been and set up decoys in grass a little off a cluster of trees. Usually not much for decoys but glad i decided to this time. Probably 30-40 minutes of on and off calling produced nothing, not even a gobble. I answered myself with a gobble on the box call and was answered a short time later from about 200 yards. I hit it again and this time i got a triple gobble, not sure if it was the same bird but it seemed he was gobbling on the run. Saw a hen kick out off to my left and he followed a short time later. He saw the decoys and came in on a string to the decoys. Shot him at 26 yards.
Buddy still needed a bird because he screwed up last week on one. The rest of the day was tough. Few birds out but they would only respond to a gobble and didnt care about anything hen related. Been a little different only hunting late season this year but i had opportunities and one finally worked out.

Ya every day out was beautiful this year. Have hunted in snow in mid April down there before but May is always 65 at least it seems. As dry as ive ever seen it though. Every pond is 3 feet down at least.
