You should have just stuck to a normal oil based paint without the marine bit on the can. I don't think you have a lot of saltwater in your neck of the woods that would warrant using marine paint

Apparently the weather in Texas has caused delays/shortages in some latex products. Traffic paint is hard to find and naturally going up.

I don’t feel like painting a lot of lines anymore.

well I have the resin down already a few days , the first coat of primer on , I think I am committed now so pay it I must

on the flip side if I don't count my labor I will have a very nicely done boat at a price I could never buy it for.

I don't have any pics of the primed pannels right now , hoping to pour expanding foam and fasten the primed panels down yet today

My wife is the best she just ordered 2 gallons 1 of primer and one of topside paint and some thinner from Jamestown for me what's another 200 dollars when your 1500 in.

Try buying a top grade anti fouling marine bottom paint.

You are aware that Gander is owned by Camping World right? The company where the owner said that he does not want our scumbag carcasses on his properties, right?

Re: and you thought Plywood was expensive - 05/16/21 10:43 AM

At 90% off probably little to no markup lol

Gander probably lost money selling him the paint.

Re: and you thought Plywood was expensive - 05/16/21 11:41 AM

They didn’t lose money, just shows folks who went to that anti store how much they were/are ripping you off.

Re: and you thought Plywood was expensive - 05/16/21 02:48 PM

it depends which time it was that gander went under.

the first time they weren't anti 2A then they were gander mountain

then they became Gander outdoors owned by camping world anti 2A , about half of the reopened stores then also went under a year later and clearance #2

Re: and you thought Plywood was expensive - 05/17/21 03:09 PM

we have a floor and it is not going anywhere , the 2 part expanding foam becomes structural under the floor bonding it and making it so you could dance on that floor and it doesn't move

have to work fast total working time on the foam is 400 seconds

Re: and you thought Plywood was expensive - 05/17/21 03:53 PM

Did you put the foam in then quick put the plywood in or spray the foam under the wood?
Posted By: GREENCOUNTYPETE

Re: and you thought Plywood was expensive - 05/17/21 04:03 PM

pour foam then quick lay panel

Looking good there Pete!

Re: and you thought Plywood was expensive - 05/17/21 04:57 PM

after we laid this panel we started making a tape dam to keep the foam out of the middle so we can pull more wires later if needed. the orange string is still pulling back and forth freely , so even though we shouldn't need any more wiring right now it is still an option to pull new wires later

the nav lights and trolling motor were the only 2 wires we are adding Red LED lights inside the boat down near the floor for night fishing those wires were also laid as well as a pull string to add any more later

Looks real good GCP!
Did the amount of foam in the pic expand to fill that whole compartment?

in a couple more minutes yes it was filling all

each cavity was measured to find the cubic volume of the cavity

2 gallons or 256 ounces of combined part A and part B expands to 8 cubic feet 8/256 = .03 cubic feet per ounce

if a cavity was 1.3 cubic feet 1.3/0.03= 43.3 ounces of foam I rounded that up to 44 since I had a little space for it to go too beyond what I measured and pour 22 oz of part A in both containers.

then I pour to 44 in the first container with part B and my son would grab that and start mixing as he walked to the far side of the boat as he was doing that I was pouring part B in the second mixing tub and mixing and walking to the near side of the boat.

about 45 seconds of mixing and it expanded right out of the cup and start pouring

on the second pour we made a tape wall to keep the foam from running to the middle as much

my cup was about 20 seconds behind his in expanding because that was about how long it took to pour then start mixing

Re: and you thought Plywood was expensive - 05/18/21 08:52 PM

So when the compartment under the floor is filled with foam, does rain and splash just stay on top side and drain from there or do you leave a space around drain plug for water to drop down to plug in rear?
Posted By: GREENCOUNTYPETE

Re: and you thought Plywood was expensive - 05/18/21 09:01 PM

here is a picture of the old foam when we were taking the floor out

the port and starboard cavities are filled leaving a channel down the middle for wiring and water to drain

I also did not pour any foam beyond the last stern rib and that last rib and beyond was not in my calculation for the volume of that pour to provide for better drainage you can see where the plug is.

rain or splash or if I take the hose to it while tipped up it can still drain out the drain plug

the foam on the old floor went nearly to the back but came out attached to the plywood of the last floor panel

I've got a 14' North Woods and used to have a Smoker Craft. No wonder it looks familiar. We call the North Woods "The Porn Star" be cause it sounds like a porn stars stage name.
grin
I redid a 1969 Starcraft 18' a few years ago, transom and all. I used a combination of Gator aid bottles filled with foam and pink board for flotation. I didn't realize they made mix and pour. Really like the finished boat though. Just not sure if it will float when full or not. Hope I never find out. eek

total boat 2 part expanding polyurethane foam https://www.amazon.com/TotalBoat-Urethane-Density-Flotation-Insulation/dp/B01AAP3G9Q

I ordered it from amazon , but Jamestown has the same thing https://www.jamestowndistributors.com/product/product-detail/2198

the nice part is the foam becomes structural allowing the floor to be 1/2 inch , the resin coating of the boards also stiffen , I thought about fiber glassing the boards but decided I didn't need the extra cost and time

Re: and you thought Plywood was expensive - 05/19/21 12:55 PM

Thanks for the links.

I used 2 part epoxy on both sides of the plywood and noticed it stiffened them up quite a bit. Would have loved to use expand foam under for support. I riveted the floor on so not an easy proposition to foam it now. I have spread foamed several metal buildings and it sure stiffens the metal up too.
