Let see some homemade traps

Let see some homemade traps - 05/22/21 04:44 PM

Couch bound for a few weeks after surgery yesterday. Thinking about tinkering with my welder once I can move around a little better. Lets see some homemade cage traps, especially if you built them out of unconventional stuff like metal barrels or something. I have a ton of scrap metal, pipes etc laying around thought it would be fun to build something and trap some critters with something homemade. . Need some inspiration to pass the time during my recovery.

Thanks Grousewit, Ive been contemplating a health awareness post, my issue is pretty much something that could effect 99% of the members here and I discovered it during a self check. Maybe i’ll write that up with my new found down time.

cool contraption Wolfie, I had a feeling you’d post on this one. A single door guillotine door is what i was thinking debating on a pull cord with bait or a pan. I can’t seem to find the horse panels anywhere locally, all i can find is 4” by 4” livestock panels.

Better off with pan imo. Less of a pain baiting. But you can make a single door pretty easy did a video in YouTube of how I built mine. You can usually order horse panel in from the local co-op for no extra charge , thank they will just tops it on with their next shipment of regular panel. Here's a cool one somone who watched my video sent me

That’s a cool little set up Eddie. I was thinking that must be European and saw your location. The thread in the international trapping forum with all the neat designs is what got my wheels turning on some home made traps.

Yea it is similar to designs used in parts of Europe where traps built into box's are a popular choice for mink. With many trapping restrictions imposed across Europe and Scandinavia, a lot of traps must be used inside a box, or tunnel of some kind.

I tried to think of something that could be set by pulling a handle from the outside of the box, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. It's a very powerful trap, with a sensitive pan trigger.

Those PVC ones look like a similar design for the spray proof skunk traps you can buy commercially, less the solid door. I was have a couple pieces of 15 inch pvc, that’s pretty close to what i was pondering. Thanks for posting

Double entry mink trap which can be set inside pipes.

Now that's a cool trap, have you had problems with mink tearing up your springs on the inside of your trap ?

Re: Let see some homemade traps - 05/23/21 08:49 PM

Rock creek I just use it around the house but I suppose you could put flashing on inside of door, with today's plywood prices that's a $25 door lol

There was a fella from California that made cage traps but those were outlawed too. He has disappeared. Might took after Hupurest and turned Greenie.

Wolfdog, I haven't tried the trap yet. Hopefully this winter. That may be an issue, but I have seen traps on the market with springs inside. I may just wait and see when I test it out.

Just use the same corn you use for hogs. The coyotes like corn and the nice that come with it. I actually caught a coyote and a coon in a tripwire activated hog trap at the same time. Get lots of pictures of coyotes in my small hog traps when I'm prebaiting hogs.

I was wondering about that, I figured with the size of the trap coyotes would go in it. I’d assume they’d start digging out pretty fast if you left them in there too long though?
