The toad I don’t think I’ve ever seen. Black widows I see all the time.

Cool. I've never seen a wild, narrow mouth toad. We only have American and Fowler's toads here. I have only seen a few black widows and that one has the widest, boldest hourglass marking I have seen.

The narrow mouthed toads almost exclusively eat ants. They can exterminate entire colonies of ants over time, by feeding on them faster than the ants can hatch more.

Send a few down to Texas and we can see how they fare against fire ants

Texas Horned Lizard (Horny Toad) eats ants too and they used to be plentiful around here, been years since I saw one

I see black widows pretty regular climbing in and out of manholes and raising water meter lids. They love dark damp places.

Glad we don't have them, we got brown recluse
