Stay In California

Stay In California - 06/09/21 01:26 AM

I spent the last week in Dallas for a trial. California transplants everywhere.

When I got home tonight my son and I went to meet some new neighbors. We wanted to welcome them to the area and ask if he can fish a pond he has fished for years with the permission of the prior owner. New guy is from California. We got a hard no on fishing--but that's totally his right and I respect it. Dude was however not friendly and weird as heck, again his right.

Anyway, the California transplants are a disease that is spreading. Stay there!

Even if you didn't really want to, I don't see how you can turn down the neighbor kid that asks to fish the pond once in awhile. Hopefully the new neighbors will warm up to you.

Re: Stay In California - 06/09/21 01:34 AM

Agree but I get it. We have ponds so he'll be fine. That pond is however really good especially out of a float tube.

It was the flat bill hat and attitude that won't play well here.

Just wait, ol Cali will get in some kind of bind and need your help I imagine. Then you can either laugh and watch him flounder or do the neighborly thing and help him and see if that changes his mind about the kid fishing.

Another thought, he is from commifornia and probably looking for lawsuits and any other trouble to come at him from every direction. Once he has a chance to see things are different he might come around

1 Life in America where one has to be responsible is scary
2 Americans who are from America are scary
3 California is Trump's fault

Re: Stay In California - 06/09/21 01:48 AM

On a positive note, my son respects property rights way more than I did when I was 13.

I would have just hopped the fence when I was his age. It's funny, he really never thought about it.

Well at least you found out right away that he is No

You can adjust accordingly

Re: Stay In California - 06/09/21 01:56 AM

Maybe he's hesitant since he's unfamiliar with everyone there. Give it time, be neighborly, hopefully he turns out being a great neighbor

Burn him out.

This and win him over to the way of practical wisdom

Blaine, invite him to church and then take him out to kill something. Works every time. Lol.

Re: Stay In California - 06/09/21 02:37 AM

That's really a kick to the nads B.C. Anyone who cuts off a kids fishing is not to be trusted....
kinda like a lawyer. wink Bummer for the youngins though...you'll work it out. Slow play it.
Follow him around and see if he has any traffic transgressions...then take him to court for
fishing rights. grin

If it doesn't work his head will explode. Most of the big city types I've meet never even met neighbors that lived next door for years. Hopefully he'll loosen up keep waving and smiling.

I'm not going to worry too much about it and I don't think he'll be around long. He looked overwhelmed by the amount of work it will require to take care of the place.

Californians take note to not move anywhere near Savell.

Savell all depends on how loud the banjos are from his truck seakers

I hate seeing all the California plates here in Idaho. The west lost Oregon, Washington, Colorado, and now losing New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada to the socialist lefties.

You should put your Joe Biden sign back in your yard, you know, make him feel at home.

Just let him read this thread, then put a “Trump 2024” sticker on his Prius.

They have pretty much ruined Colorado according to an elk guide was used out there. No more trapping except for ADC work thanks to these clowns.

I'm not sure how he would have known that. I don't think he's been here long enough to see my TV ads and billboards. Maybe it was the suit and tie I wore.

I'm kidding. No ads, no billboards and I wear a suit once or twice a month these days. By the way, that would have been a strange thing for me to share.

Not that it matters to anything, but that's the kind of thing that usually gets discussed when you meet a new neighbor.
"What do you do for a living?
"Attorney."
"Interesting. Do you specialize in something, genera[ practice or what?"

Like that.

Re: Stay In California - 06/10/21 01:05 AM

But I guess you did say the dude was a little weird, so a normal conversation probably didn't ensue.

It would have been odd for a guy from California that doesn't want me or my son on his property to ask what I do for a living. I could be wrong but situation matters when it comes to chit chat.

But yes, it could have come up.

I don't blame him. Big liability for the land owner. If kid hooks himself dad sues homeowner for medical cost and ensuing ptsd.

lol. grin

Sounds like the guy is just an a-hole. A close friend of mine just moved from LA to Nashville. Hasn't been there a year and is already having a period over how out of touch Nashville people are compared to LA.

On a serious note, he does come from a place where people don't exactly treat other people's/public property with respect. He may come around or not. He may be the type of person who would expect the world from you and give nothing in return. I have met a fair number of people like that.

No, Crown land is public land-no charge to use it for recreational purposes.

If you don't sign a waiver, isn't everyone else on the hook when someone follows their snow machine to the bottom of an ice covered river. In other words, shouldn't the user sign a waiver to indemnify all the other owners.
