Seamless gutters $$$

Seamless gutters $$$ - 06/10/21 04:53 PM

100 feet needed 50 foot on each side of the house with 2 simple downspouts $800 seems like twice what it’s worth? It took the guy 5 minutes to figure it out for 100 feet of gutters and 2 simple downspouts and he does this every day seems fishy to me.

Get another estimate and compare them.

Re: Seamless gutters $$$ - 06/10/21 05:08 PM

Around here that would be a deal. I've seen jobs here like that go for $4-5k for about the same footage on a two story house. Height has a big factor in price too.

I've seen gutter cleaning companies charge $300+ just to clean a pair of gutter runs here.

Austin and San Antonio the going rate for 4 or 5 inch aluminum is 6.76 / ft. To price these I usually add a ft for every bend, end cap, or soldered seam. As far as them possibly including haul off and dump fees that is where you should balk b/c they save and sell the scrap.

Re: Seamless gutters $$$ - 06/10/21 05:16 PM

I played 1000 5 years for 6 inch gutters with 8 downspout and chopped up 280 feet.

Re: Seamless gutters $$$ - 06/10/21 05:38 PM

I’ll take the old ones down and use them on my fur shed, then I’ll paint behind where the gutters are going up if they lower the price if not I will just seal them up and add some drip moldings to hit the gutters better with what I have now. Just thought the seamless would be better but $800 I’d nuts if I can do it myself.

Re: Seamless gutters $$$ - 06/10/21 05:58 PM

Here it is $6.50 /foot for gutter and $11/foot downspout with 3 bends.

Re: Seamless gutters $$$ - 06/10/21 06:01 PM

We payed $8 a foot and $100 a downspout 2 years ago for 5” gutters.

Re: Seamless gutters $$$ - 06/10/21 06:18 PM

I just put up the cheap plastic ones for $7 per 10 foot section (pretty much any hardware store had them in white and dark brown) and attach them with a long deck screw and a small fender washer instead of buying the attachment fittings that go with them as those are overpriced and how they get you on price. They’ve made it through 3 winters even with being full of ice. Even on my metal roofs they don’t get torn off when the 3 feet of snow slides off, they flex and pop back into place. Aluminum gutters are nothing but a racket. I’ll do the 100 feet of install for $300 as long as you pay for my gas to get to your house grin

Re: Seamless gutters $$$ - 06/10/21 06:30 PM

we have seamless on the house and a 34x40 shed, and id never go back to the cheap plastic. seamless is "one and done". very happy with ours and i wouldnt balk at a price of 800 bucks. jmo.

Re: Seamless gutters $$$ - 06/10/21 06:33 PM

Talked to the wife she has no problem spending the $800 plus but not me, I’ll reseal them. Then I’ll add the drip moldings and call it good nothing wrong with the ones we have now I’m not paying that crazy price when I know that’s way to much.

Re: Seamless gutters $$$ - 06/10/21 06:39 PM

Seamless made from coil stock are a lot thinner than Alcoa.
Alcoa to 33'. Alcoa out last coil if you know how to seam them.
This and comp ins differs in other areas I'm sure.

Re: Seamless gutters $$$ - 06/10/21 06:49 PM

I have newer larger size steel gutters up now in great shape, I painted the eves and put treated lumber behind them not that long ago I can get things in ship shape for $100 so paying $700 over that won’t work for me. The seamless would look nice but not that nice them seams don’t bother me.

I think back to when the whole seamless thing started and a lot of guys were doing it they did it for a song back then but the competition has thinned over the years.

Re: Seamless gutters $$$ - 06/10/21 06:58 PM

Just got seamless gutters installed on my house yesterday, it was 1400 installed for 100 feet with 5 downspouts.

Re: Seamless gutters $$$ - 06/10/21 07:27 PM

with seamless youll have a truck and trailer, one guy running out the gutter sections, and at least 2 installers. if its a 5 hour job, theres 15 man hours, at maybe 30.00/hour, so 450.00 in labor costs to the company. that leaves another 350.00 to cover cost of the truck, trailer, machinery, and material costs are through the roof now. 800.00 is really cheap. if youve already rebuilt the facia and the current gutters are fine, why look at seamless?

Re: Seamless gutters $$$ - 06/10/21 09:30 PM

Interesting fact; the founder of the company I get my aluminum products from invented the seamless gutter machine.

Lawdog, $800.00 for 100' of seamless 5"K plus downspouts would be a pretty darn good deal around here.

Had the whole front of the house done and the back, 8 inch gutter's too and it was only 600.00 but that's been a couple of years ago.

Re: Seamless gutters $$$ - 06/10/21 11:08 PM

800 sounds fair to me. Getting the materials, doing the bid and then installing the gutters takes time and effort.

Re: Seamless gutters $$$ - 06/11/21 12:38 AM

Just paid two men $300 to wash every window and screen, inside and out. Took them about 90 minutes. End result was flawless. I can wash a storm door window for days and not get it spotless.

My hat is off to those two guys. They had the equipment, the technique, and the skills to get up to the second floor windows, and leave them all spotless.

Don’t know anything about gutters but assume quality and workmanship are worth a lot. People don’t want to work hard anymore and lots of trades are hurting. Try to hire a window washer trainee. Bet you can’t.

There is an gutter cleaning outfit here by the name of Ned Stevens , their trucks are painted orange with the business name and logo. All they do is clean gutters , no installs or repairs just cleaning. They are based out of New Jersey I believe. I've seen their trucks all over the tri-state area. Good sized company. I know of several people who have paid them $300 for a 2 story house with two 50' straight runs and downspouts. More complicated and taller houses are more. I've heard of mini mansions with multiple rooflines costing $500-$1000 or more for a clean out.

When I do ADC work I have gotten $150-$300 to clean gutters as an add-on only when I have already put my ladders up to access the roof. Easy sell , easy for me because I am already on the roof. I've also made $100-$250 to remove old TV antennas as well. Most people will gladly pay for this as they may terrified of heights and don't own a tall ladder. In somewhat of defence of these prices , most houses in my area are at least 2 stories and taller. Very few single story houses here. I also live in a very expensive area and any service industry company charges quite a bit.

I remove my own old attenna , 2 summers ago on Sunday in July a severe storm tornados close, 70-90 mph winds, attenna top tower bent over, was go hire boom truck an one day I seen it look like broke an hang in tree branch support, so I got mad an climb up tower back house maybe 40 ft up, grab it an slowly got it free clear me an branches an pitch on lawn, scary climb up an if fall, it been end me but save $150 , I hate pay ripoff stuff have done ridiculous prices, sometimes nothing can do like stupid street assessment next summer for street in good shape

Re: Seamless gutters $$$ - 06/11/21 02:26 AM

$800 for 100 feet is a lower quote than I got. Mine wanted $400 for 21 feet and one downspout. I did it myself with a seam for $110. To do over I'd just pay him the $400.

Re: Seamless gutters $$$ - 06/11/21 03:29 AM

I used to be able to get seamless gutters installed for $7/ft. Downspouts were $7 a foot as well. My guy was also willing to drop them on the ground for $2.10 a foot if I wanted to install them myself. He called me this week and added a $1 a foot to each. The price of materials is going up.

Re: Seamless gutters $$$ - 06/11/21 03:49 AM

I own a small business with 4 employees and if I was to do a job for $800 I would have to be in and out in 4 hours to make any real money. The price of running a business with fuel, labor, equipment and insurance is crazy. Sounds like a good deal for doing the gutters on your house. But I'm no gutter man

Re: Seamless gutters $$$ - 06/11/21 05:29 AM

When getting estimates I have 3 guys come out at the same time so they can see their competition
Really works out good on timber bids, had 4 men give me a bid at the same time
Bids went from 45,000-111,000, big difference there.
Good luck.

Re: Seamless gutters $$$ - 06/11/21 04:17 PM

The price is fair in my opinion. My experience is that you put the hundred into the repair and then end up calling back in a year or so to get the gutter. My father runs into this all the time. Do yourself a favor a favor and have them put up. DONE. That $100 will turn into $200 next year plus your labor. Seamless is one and done. The only thing I guess I may question is a single down spout on a 50ft run. Not saying it isn't the right thing to do depending on run-off location.
