Having a new metal shop built 28 x 32 with 12 foot walls. what's the best way to insulate it?

Thanks

Spray foam IMO.

Have done several with spray foam and it really tightens everything up. Eliminates condensation, wind noise etc.. You can also add regular fiberglass insulation after if your finishing some of the areas.

Spray foam is the best, expensive, but the best.

I’m planning on spray foam, eventually. You building it or having it done ? We had an outfit called Man-Cave all lined up, but the Clark county building Dept. Scared them off.

What are the costs for spray foam? I got 3.65 sq ft and 1.35 per board foot quoted.

Is that 1.35 per board foot the materials or does it include labor ?

Well that seems pretty good to me BUT I am comparing it to the cost of things at my location.

A few years back I built a metal building 60x100x 25'. Had it sprayed with four inches of foam and a half inch of concrete. Cost was just about $96,000 to have it installed.

So a buck 35 bdft looks good to me. The thing that is nice is you won't have to mess with it in the future.

I suspect you are mainly interested in cooling ?

Yes cooling in the summer and freeze in the winter. 2 inches works out to 2.70 a foot, and 3 inches on the roof.

If it was my decision I would go with it.

2” will meet condensation barrier codes in most all areas. One can always toss in some r-11 or 13 behind the finish wall if you think you need more for your climate. Here in SD we can vary 140 degrees fairly easily, so 3”+ is pretty common here, or as I stated earlier with the addition of fiberglass. Either way you will not be disappointed I think.

Man its expensive one quote was almost what the building cost was

2 inches should be right around 6300........right ? So about 7500 with 3 inches in the roof

Ya that's what most of the quotes have been around then got one for 15500.

my spray foam guy gets $.90, per sq ft, per inch of thickness .....closed cell foam...this is important that they spray closed cell, rather than open cell...closed cell is R7 per inch, open cell is R3

I am surprised the guy putting it up didnt quote you with or without trapped insulation installed behind the metal panels

Im sure it was an option but way over priced for what you got

Just be sure when comparing quotes that they are all talking about the same type and density of material. 2 pound foam is the most commonly used that I have seen but there are others. So ask, if the quote doesn't specify.
