Anyone not use FMJ ?

Anyone not use FMJ ? - 06/16/21 01:20 AM

Just curious if anyone just plain doesn't use or buy FMJ ammo. I have some but I try to shoot with the same stuff I hint with. Gets irritating changing zeroes after a range trip and such. I reload though so it's a little different for me I guess

I use it in my SKS only.

I did years ago. Now only in commie guns. Then again I don't shoot those really.

I have some leftover from years back and for the commie guns I don't reload for but other than that no. Like you I don't like changing zero so I find a good shooting load with bullet that has good performance on intended game and is also economical and run with that.

If, and it's a big if, we can find any ammo these days, it's almost always FMJ. Something is better than nothing...

Illegal here (I believe) but I have seen critters killed with FMJ, much less damage and a well placed shot still makes them dead quick.

I use Winchester 40gr FMJ in my .22 mags. Accurate and good penetration.

Conventional wisdom is that you never want to have a mag full of FMJ in an active shooter situation because even if you hit your intended target it could over penetrate and put an innocent in harm's way behind them

Its cheap or used to be cheap. I shoot it at targets out of my 223. I load noslers for hunting. partitions for deer and ballistic tips for coyotes

Still have lots of FMJ war surplus in many cals. Shoot mainly out of old military weapons. Plinko targets with it. Gave some .30/06 to a buddy this hunting season when he couldn't find ammo and he got a whitetail doe

Hard to believe, but I had a Remington 788 that shot factory fmj loads better than anything I could reload.
It was a terror on groundhogs.

I use it for target practice. Georgia law states bullets for hunting must be expanding type. I don’t consider hogs game animals or actually hunting them. They are just live targets when I’m target shooting. They will drop the biggest hogs too. Personally I don’t care if they drop or run off, I just want as many holes in them as I can get and I have a lot of FMJ’s, lol.

Many moon's ago, I bought a MASSIVE quantity of Interarms 30-06, FMJ, Berdan primed, and pulled the bullets and reloaded with Soft and Hollow points, worked out great.
