Pork shoulder might be the most under-rated meat around. Good as it looks to be in your smoker I like getting them cured up and makin em up with green beans and a few small new potatoes.

Yes Kroger had them on sale ! That right there cost me 6.59 cents !! Less than a big mac meal from Mickie dees . Plus supper tonight with the whole family and 2-3 dsy of left overs.
8 bucks for a bag of pellets plus I will forget about it for 8 hrs. Then baste it in BBQ sauce and wrap in tin foil for last 2 hrs. Already injected it with my own recipe of spices and melted butter .

The Mexicans got it right... pork butts and shoulders were the cheapest and the best. For tamales and carnitas there's nothing better. My mom's family were all butchers in southeastern Montana and they knew what to take home.

All those cuts today are expensive and they call them "butcher's cuts". Funny thing.

Yes same temp. It varies from 180 -210 on my pit boss it rises just alittle when it calls for the pellet auger to move. Just wrapped it in foil got 2 more hours . Canned green beans ,slaw, steamed carrots, and mashed potatoes.

Yea I said shoulder but I think it was a butt! Either way it was GREAT! Butt , shoulder it was on sale and I knew it would be great to smoke as soon as it yelled at me from the meat case at Kroger!!

Aren't pork butt and pork shoulder the same thing? I know the picnic cut is different from a butt/shoulder.
