Re: Dumbest thing you've ever done? - 07/07/21 03:07 PM

I'm not scared.

One day I noticed the power line going to the transformer behind the house was on fire. I calmly went to the back of the house turned on the water to the hose reel and dragged the hose out to the back yard. I was poised to put out the fire when I thought how stupid could you be. Called the power Co and they said It was no big deal and they would come out.
And that's only one of many dumb moves.

Me either Beav.
Was holding a piece of metal in my hand and decided to enlarge a hole in it with a drill. Yep drill went through it a little quicker than I thought. Right in to the palm of my hand. Nice 1/4” hole full of metal shavings. Still can’t believe I did that.

Later? Rebuilding it rather than buy new.

Drained the oil out of a truck engine, then got busy greasing parts and other maintenance. Started the truck to make sure a fitting was getting grease to the part that needed lubricated. After a couple minutes the engine seized up. Took the injector pump, air compressor, turbo, etc etc etc. $30k later it was fixed.

When I was a very young man a hired hand that worked for my dad part time with our cattle was over one day. A couple of young buddies were over hanging out and we got to talking to the hired hand. He was taunting us that we couldn't pee high enough to hit the smooth fence wire that was charged on the inside of the barbed wire interior.

We all said we bet that we could do it . So I went first. Guess what happened next........................ crazy

Re: Dumbest thing you've ever done? - 07/07/21 04:30 PM

how about the dumbest thing I have done lately

I was cutting a piece of aluminum angle iron with a angle grinder and cut off wheel

I was in a rush so of course didn't put the piece in the vice , so I am free hand cutting when it binds and sends the cut-off wheel into my left index finger luckily it only ground down into the meat a little before I drop/tossed both the work and the grinder on the floor.

use the vice.

Recently......

I was weed whacking. I left off the trigger to go around a wire. Well the darn thing didn't stop spinning quick enough for my liking. So I reached down to stop the head. About the third time the string went across my knuckles I realized how dumb I was.
I went into the house and showed the wife. She just looked at me, shook her head, and proceeded to dump a whole bottle of peroxide on it.

Changed oil in my driveway. The old oil filter gasket stuck to the engine. Installed a new filter with both rubber gaskets. Made a royal mess when the engine was started.

I told you guys about this a long time ago.

I found a grinner In my shop. Well It was tucked up In one of my shelves so I couldn't get to It. So I got out the 22 single six and shot It. I figured 2 shots would be better then one and I missed the second one. Got the grinner down and noticed this hole in the dry wall. Went outside a sure enough there was a exit hole In the siding.Looked to my left and sure enough I had taken out the bedroom window. Went Inside and there was a hole through the closet door. It cost me $90.00 to have that window pane replaced.

I have done many dumb things over the years. One recent one that comes to mind was: I have a number of black shoes. One morning I went to work with black shoes and didn't realize until I was at work that I had two different type of black shoes on. One was a penny loafer, the other was a different type of slip on. Funny thing nobody seemed to even notice. At least they never said anything if they did.

As a young single man I went camping on an abandoned beach on the Costa Rican Carribbean. On the bus ride there two beautiful Norwegian gals didn't have the proper change for the bus ride so as a gentleman I paid it for them. Just a couple of dollars.

I didn't have a tent or sleeping bag they noticed (which they did) so as we hiked in to the beach they asked if I would like to stay in their two-man pup tent with them.

.................I said Nah, that's OK I'll be fine. I figured they were just being nice since I paid their bus fare.

When I was 13 I decided to build a rocket using sugar and potassium nitrate as a fuel. I decided to melt them and pour them in the tube. I later found out that it melts at 400 degrees and ignites at 425 degrees. I did not have that good a temperature control on my tuna can and candle. Impressive flame though. I thought the candle was probably my problem so I tried again on the kitchen stove. My Dad had no sense of humor at all.

Recently. I went to plug an extension cord into the outside plugin on my house. When I flipped the cover up yellowjackets had built a nest under it and came swarming out. I grabbed the garden hose that was only six feet away and proceeded to hose the nest down. . . made a funny sizzling sort of sound for about thirty seconds and then a really loud pop. Plug in never worked again.

Many years ago I used gasoline to start a fire in my fireplace. We had glass doors on the fireplace and my intention was to close the doors after I lit the fire, there was a big poof and I did the only backward summersault of my life.

That is pretty bad.

I think I got it beat.

Working security at a casino. I see people in a car in the valet parking. I approach the car & it's 3 beautiful ladies starting to have fun. I do the normal questioning stuff they keep insisting I join in on the fun. I tell them we're on surveillance. They invite me to the hotel down the road right away. Told them I'm 3 hours into a 10hr shift. They left . Both surveillance and 2 of my bosses told me I'm an idiot for not going.

After exchanging pleasantries with a few Al Qaida in Iraq, we chased a couple along a river and one armed one ran into a chicken coop. I ran in after him. It got sporty but I won. I should probably have waited for help or tossed a grenade in there but we wanted to know where another guy was so wanted him alive. It didn’t work out well. I always thought that was a good idea till I had kids. In hind sight that may have been the dumbest thing I’ve done.

Re: Dumbest thing you've ever done? - 07/08/21 06:00 PM

It's not the dumbest thing I've done, but it's pretty dumb.

I was a freshman in college and I and a bunch of other guys from my floor were playing tackle football against a bunch of freshman girls. There was around 2 girls playing for every guy, around 15 girls and 7 guys total. On the first play of the game, I rushed the quarterback. I easily pushed through the 3 girls who tried to block me and scooped, Heidi, the quarterback up into a sort of fireman's carry. I was a bit tipsy. We all probably were. I'm standing there holding Heidi in 2 arms chest high and she's squirming trying to break free and throw the ball. John, one of the guy's on my team starts yelling "You have to down her." I am clueless to what he means. 2 other girls start trying to break Heidi loose. I lift up Heidi higher to break her loose from the other 2 girls. Again, John yells "You have to down her." I ask "What?" John says "Just drop her" and I did. Heidi falls from head height and has the air knocked out of her. Several people, at that time, start saying things like "He body slammed her, Keith body slammed her. Keith body slammed Heidi."

Fortunately Heidi was okay after a few minutes.

On the very next play of the game. I am staying back and another girl comes running towards me with the ball. I sweep her up with my right arm and lift her up too. John starts yelling "Don't slam her! Don't slam her! I very carefully lay her flat on the ground like I'm putting her to bed. I caught one more girl after that and did the same thing.

When I was a kid, I watched my uncle blow out the interior of a brand new 1971 Chrysler New Yorker. He went to shoot a groundhog in the garden, and laid his .30-.06 on the roof for a rest. Sent bullet fragment through the seats, upholstery, dash board and windshield.
