Our NC blue cat state record gets broken several times per year lately. Previous record cats have come from Gaston Lake. Live bream are the preferred bait I've read. This cat came from the Roanoke River, downstream from the lake. I don't recall any previous record cats coming from the river.

I have a friend who fishes for channel cats in a small tributary of the Roanoke River. He uses a sponge on a treble hook, dipped in WalMart catfish bate for 5-10 lb fish. He says the fish absolutely feed according to the solar-lunar tables.

Pretty sure that is a world record blue cat

Bug Island, or Kerr Lake, is on the Roanoke River. Just above Gaston Lake. Both lakes straddle the state line between VA and NC.

Went to school with Cody Mullenix, who caught a world record 121.5 lb blue cat out of lake Texoma back in 2004. It's still the state record. He got a lot of attention and prizes for that fish. He now guides in North Texas.
