I found this site shortly after it got rolling. I believe at that time some cat lady was a popular target for jokes lol. Great lady! I was late in life getting into the hunting trapping scene. This site was one of my greatest resources. I was 25 years of age when I came across this bunch of rough necks. Now many years later I visit the site often with one or more of my six daughters. Did not see that one coming back then!

Buzzy its good to know you are still vertical.
Glad you posted, there are a lot of us you could share your trapping knowledge & experience with
that would benefit us greatly.
Hope you are fairing well.
The end of September Im sure Paul could use some help manning “command central” in Smithfield.

35 I think, not sure when I joined but that's about right.

The exchange of trapping information was on a different level then compared to now. Some real good guys died, others left altogether, and others got tired of the crap and quit posting to just lurk and PM. Those really were the good ol days.

I recall this site, and another by Graybeard, and those were the first two forums I think I ever joined. I don't remember what happened to Graybeard site but there were some of same folks on both.
Newt, Buzz, there were some great guys helping me out.

Before Trapperman, I found a trapping site. I don't even remember what it was called. But, the language on there was very foul. I seem to remember a person named Benny, maybe? Being a Christian, I struggled with the site.
So, I continued to look for a trapping site and found Tman.

Benny is the person who built Trapperman. His language could be a bit foul on other sites, but he respected my wishes for this place to be profanity free.

Re: Circa 1999, T man in it's infancy - 07/15/21 04:39 PM

I was 59 in 1999; 81 now. I have been here since the Otter Creek days. Paul probably doesn't remember my name, however we used to chat every once in a while late at night. I was a ADC operator and did quite a bit of beaver work. As time passed, I went more to urban damage control work working more on city critters- squirrels, opossums, raccoons, bats, etc.

Every once in a while I like to review the information in this post- https://trapperman.com/forum/ubbthr...ats-for-the-past-five-years#Post1698432. It provides a pretty good history of TRAPPERMAN.

Otter creek was a trapping forum before Trapperman, Fellow that ran site got in trouble with Feds on illegal otter and marten.......

Re: Circa 1999, T man in it's infancy - 07/15/21 05:53 PM

Was on Otter man or something like that trapping site and he got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. Everyone there mentioned this site and I was number 3110 and that had to be around '99 I guess. And just like Danny Clifton " i was more than 20 years younger than i am now" what a coincidence

Was on Otter Creek and then on here from the get go. Not sure what my original member number was, or what the year was. Do know I was on otter creek before I was married so at least 1998.

Re: Circa 1999, T man in it's infancy - 07/16/21 04:05 AM

Since those days we have lost a lot of good people. Many through their deaths and some through their big mouths getting them in trouble. A few left because of the big mouths.
It would be wonderful to have the greats who left vertical back here to continue the greatness that we once were.

Even Ma Cat.

Those were good times, I would log on to chat for an hour or so before I left for work most nights.

the busy times were between 7 and 11 CST, but you never knew if some one would be checking it out any time of the day.

Graybeard still exists. I've been a member there since around 2001. I haven't been active for at least ten years.

Re: Circa 1999, T man in it's infancy - 07/16/21 10:55 AM

I was active on a PA hunting & trapping site and someone tipped me about Tman. I joined the PA site in 2001 and Tman sometime soon after that.

I know I was here at least a couple of years before the big crash of 2006.

I was lurking once in awhile back in 99 and 2000. Tried to join mutiple times, but typical computer nonsense, always got me frustrated. We finally got better service in the mid 2000 and I kept lurking, till t got to where I figured it out, in my late fiftys, and got the membership to take in 2011. My inherent dislike for computers has kept me from a lot....just call me a dinosaur! lol

Re: Circa 1999, T man in it's infancy - 07/16/21 01:40 PM

Wow! I wasn't gonna say anything, Paul. But, I Think I must have found this place within a year or two of '99?

Reading this thread, one of the first old handles to spring to mind was FTIH. I was a big fan of While E Coyote. I'm imagining my old friend, Sgt.W has, some time since, become lost to us?

Isn't Stevie D of NJ still around? (Hey, Steve; I sold a Mk 1 for a cool £1,000! Still got another! grin)

Got on really well with a Guide from NY State. Typically, to me, NY conjured only images of sky scrapers! laugh

Good grief. We're all getting so Old now, Paul! LMBO!

I found this place as a 13 year old trying to learn as much as I possibly could about trapping, about 2003. I have learned so much from this place. I rarely post but read daily and look at the archives any time I am wanting to learn something. Thanks to all who put this together and keep it going

I joined in 01 or 02. About 45 years old. Learned to post pics from posts by family trapper. Was living in western Alaska catching lynx, marten, wolverine, a few fox. Good times. Looked forward to the threads from Went when he returned from west Kansas catching cats and yotes. Learned about the taxidermy market in 02 from family trapper also.
