FHA BEAVER
Beaver will shine again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
......Probably not today though. Good luck for those of us that got some on this sale. A high percentage of mine are graded "gd dmg" which didn't move at all in the last two sales. Leaves me wondering why the hatter buyers seem to be staying away? Maybe getting their needs met through private channels?
Hopefully when some good beaver intel comes in it can be shared here. They should be well into them by now.

They are on page 38 of 62. Not a lot of action. What more can I say…………..
Oh well....I'm a castor trapper these days anyway. The pelts just gravy if'n I sell any.
Maybe FHA will have beaver results posted by tonight?

Bears don’t sell until tomorrow (Friday). 5 hours of wolves, then wolverine, then black bear for who knows how long.
There aren’t really any beaver results to post.

Just glancing through the catalog, I would say maybe 40% sold. The highest price I saw was $55.00. Some of the third section was unsold which is unusual compared to previous sales. But not surprising when you have to add on the handling fee of $7.00. All of a sudden a $3.00 low grade otter is now a $10.00 otter, which is no longer a bargain.
There seemed to be sections of the otter catalog which were unsold. Like 25 lots or so and then the next lots would sell. I’m assuming those are dealer lots with price limits. BUT I don’t know that for sure. Just a guess.

Re: FHA BEAVER - 07/22/21 06:26 PM
Thanks. I found it unusual in the last auction where the light colored ones were in such greater demand. Hadn’t seen that in quite awhile and I wouldn’t complain this go around if it’s similar. Had 5 2xl select lights and another 2x select pale. The interest in light colors is surely short lived knowing my luck lol

Heard eastern wolves aren't expected to do much.
Well, my beaver have been updated. Most of my better stuff sold blankets mainly (highest price $19), and none of the section III moved at all. Like WissMiss was saying; probably the handling fees, etc. kills the deal on the lower grades.

Re: FHA BEAVER - 07/22/21 08:16 PM
Just checked my beaver-1/3 not sold, all the top end and some of the rest.
The better prices were paid for darks hvy no dmg in the bigger sizes.
Price dropped considerably for any dmgs even slts.
No surprises there-continuation of the current market.
With castor included its a 40 cd avg on the beaver that I shipped.

Had four sell out of 32. $38, $19, $18, $13.50. Comes out to $22.13 average. Lots unsold though.
The $38 beaver was 1X SELECT HVY XDK-DK
The same grade that fetched $19 now brought $23 in last September's sale. Castor market should remain strong.

The beaver market for fur is pretty much in the pits with no relief in sight. Only Northern, Winter, DARK, clean (zero damage) big, skins have much value.
I sold 36 out of 119 for a $11.53 avg. Almost all of them blankets.

Beaver is the only commercial type furbearer a trapper can still get good money for in todays market if you are in a good section.
Way better than coon and a pleasure to put up if you can master cleanskinning.

I think some of the guys taking 100+ heavy western coyotes would disagree with that statement.

Ya I'd rather do 1 nice coyote compared to 8 or 9 beavers

Don't worry Boco has never handled a western heavy coyote to know; being a easterner
Coyote is still a money maker. I had them all written off for $30, very happy to get $120-$155 each.

Even with the prices being in a slump, a guy who knows what he’s doing and knows the area real well can make pretty good money on a coyote/bobcat line here. Sorry boco, your beavers just aren’t as special as you think they are

I’d rather put up Ten cheap marten than one stinky nice 100 dollar coyote.

Yes they are, since it works for me.I'll take 40$ all day long for the fall skins I ship to the raw fur market, including castor.
I dont ship small damaged or unprime skins to the raw fur market,I make more money on those in the tanned fur market to fur sewers.
Once you count the castors beaver is bread and butter for me.
I would sooner put up beaver than any other furbearer of compareable size-nice and clean and fast to process.Plus there are tons of beaver to be had every year when managed .And they are concentrated so cheap to harvest in the fall.
Right now the only furbearer to make good money on.(no coyotes here).

gee gibb I don't feel so bad now selling 8 out of 41..
gibb, did any of your selects sell?
My main concern is I'm starting to accumulate a bunch of section III stuff up there and had zero of it sell the last three auctions. I can remember a few years back getting $23-24 for gd dmg blankets. Be happy to see $8-9 now. They fetch that from hatter buyers paying by the pound these days.
