I seen a "report" that Kansas is in talks with the Big 10. Then seen another that UCF, BYU, Cincinnati and Houston are talking withe the 8 remaining Big 12 members. A lot of speculation right now.

Re: Texas and Okla Going to play with the big boys ! - 07/23/21 09:57 PM

Playing football in the SEC conference is like living behind the RR tracks with the gangs, your going to get beat up....TX and OK team physical therapists will make an honest living now.

Will be glad to see them in the SEC. Nothing is worse than having to fill a non-conference schedule with the Western Kentuckys of the world. Just a big waste of time for everyone except the school getting a beating for $900k. Hope the SEC eventually goes to an ALL conference schedule.

Obviously Alabama has room to brag but we'll let the rest of you SEC folk look at our 7 National Championship Trophies. Look. Don't touch.

Same for the Heisman Trophies.

Be sure not to let them collect dust. They'll be sitting there for a good long time.

Will be interesting if there is a lot more concentration of power teams in conferences. The current system will then have to weigh even heavier or more with teams with 2 maybe 3 losses in some of these conferences. May even make schools from weaker and smaller conferences even more difficult to get rated higher.

Yup, the cupcake conferences and schools need not apply. Either that or some woke yahoo will place a 12 win UAB ahead of a 2 loss Bama.

Tennessee seems pretty comparable with their 6 National Championships, LSU has 4, Ole Miss 3, Florida 3, Auburn and Georgia 2,...And you mentioned Alabama - 18 National Championships, Good Lord that really does sound ridiculous...18!!

Would Mercer and New Mexico State be considered powerful football schools? Asking for a friend.

Don't think this was a coincidence now that players can accept money from endorsement deals, etc. Gonna take a deep and wealthy fan base to be able to attract best players money can buy. More TV money in SEC for TX, OK, MO, etc.

Wonder what Texas A&M thinks? They made the jump to SEC to get away from TX, and are now back in the same place they started. MO did the same thing.

Bottom line is there are gonna be a few super conferences / semi-pro leagues in college sports, and everyone else.

Who's moving to the East if TX and OK come to play or is there plans to add two teams to the east?

Re: Texas and Okla Going to play with the big boys ! - 07/24/21 05:23 PM

Nick Saban said his BACK UP Quarter back signed deals worth 7 figures. Things are about to get shook up in college, the places with big fan bases and lots o $$$ will become recruitment powerhouses.

Re: Texas and Okla Going to play with the big boys ! - 07/24/21 05:32 PM

Coach at MO just had state pass emergency legislation to enable student athletes to sign endorsement deals. Was in a recruiting war with Alabama for kids from MO. Unless MO was able to make them rich, they were leaving the state for greener pastures. Emphasis on green.

Unless somebody wises up and backs out of this endorsement deal stuff, new trend will be for sports agents to be signing kids in high school. Won't be any recruiting wars.....agents will negotiate with the schools for best money deal.

At least the pros have a draft. College football will devolve into a few all star teams and everyone else.

Re: Texas and Okla Going to play with the big boys ! - 07/24/21 06:41 PM

Universities have been paying them under the table for years...Duke mens basketball team is usually loaded with upper classmen...It's not because they love the coach or the university that much.

This just brings it out in the open.

Was the University of Kentucky paying their players under the table?

Was the University of Kentucky paying their players under the table?

Yes but it was in confederate dollars so it don't count.

Between athletes marching for social justice or whatever else comes down the pike, kneeling , etc. and now being paid money to get a degree while chasing a ball around in a circle somewhere sports has finally caught up with the NFL. The whole works is going down the drain.

At least now TX and Ok won't be in the playoff's anymore for a national title, they can have 8 or 9 win season's and everyone be happy.

Way Alabama has been rolling the past decade recruiting hasn't been fair anyway! Pretty good bet if your a great athlete it's you ticket straight to the NFL! Why gamble on that by going to some other school?

Yes they did, and do, their current system under Calipari is a faster rotation to the pro's....I used The Duke example because I feel they implement it more into their system as standard practice, to get the maximum advantage.

Just look at the retention times at Duke.

However, Kentucky is just as guilty, they all are.

Oh, and Jtrap...You can still spend that confederate money in the SEC, Lol.

If this is a known fact to you, how's come the NCAA didn't know about it?

Re: Texas and Okla Going to play with the big boys ! - 07/24/21 11:19 PM

Yes the NFL could well sponsor major universities and thus get a real head start on draft day and would have a lot of the sign up BS out of the way before the summer practices get started. Pro scouts could help recruit for the big name colleges now that material wealth is involved, sorta makes athletic scholarship with a dorm, tuition and 3 hots seem low ball. That however may allow colleges to have more funds to recruit good players in the none money making sports.

Oh I think they very well know, catching them is a different matter...Your a smart person, do you really think these student athletes who could easily turn pro and make millions after 1 season, elect to stay 3 more years to get an education, or for loyalty to the school, coach, and fans?

Maybe 1 in 100 would do that, IMO.

Excellent probability Penn St has done it too.

How many you OKla got since they started WINNING them and not voted on by sports writers !? ZERO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If they are really good, they turn pro after one year. I would think there are more players turning pro after a year or two than there are players that become pros after 4 years in school.

All it would take is the NBA to stop creating roster spots for these self proclaimed pros. THe "D" league ? Oh I for got it offended the black players that couldn't read or spell their own name so they called it the "G" league now. ONLY so many seats on the bench in the NBA so had to put them somewhere.

LOL, If Penn State was paying players to play basketball they wasted their money. Penn State traditionally has a PP basketball team.

Yes, let's leave the Big 12 to become more relevant! The last team to leave that did so was? I'll wait...and yes, I know it's about money, but the one that said college football will suck is half right, cause that started several years ago. Lol

Re: Texas and Okla Going to play with the big boys ! - 07/25/21 03:50 PM

Sorry, we got off the subject a bit. The way I look at it the SEC wants to add Oklahoma and Texas to improve their conference in order to close the gap on the Big Ten.

So, are high school kids gonna be quitting high school early to go make college ball money?

Are high school parents ready for the onslaught of money that will be offered to kids? Gonna be interesting !

Re: Texas and Okla Going to play with the big boys ! - 07/25/21 04:12 PM

I believe it will make an even bigger divide between the haves and have nots which will make watching the slaughter games even more unwatchable.

One of the best moves the NCAA ever did to help level the games was to put restrictions on the amount of scholarships a school could hand out. This paying will reverse that.
