(quote)
But the multispecies family is also rooted in the same historical processes as other nontraditional families. .....– opening our lives to the possibility of self-happiness. Child-free families, single-parent families, declining marriage rates,.....

This state has also begot fully blended families where both human and furry non-human inhabitants equally enjoy the spoils of modern life. For child-free families – a category that has grown dramatically in the past 50 years – the question of whether a child might make them happy has been asked and answered. Dogs and cats paw in to fill a longing to nurture.

Can I claim the dog as a dependent on my taxes? Can I make him get an actual paying job?

Nope. He's going to have to live with being the dog.

Now that I think about it in family terms, the cows provide a heck of lot more to this family than the dog.

"Can I claim the dog as a dependent on my taxes?" I can see this coming, yes.

"Can I make him get an actual paying job?" That would be speicism, so probably no.

I interviewed a gal that had a pet monkey. During the interview she showed us photos of the monkey and talked about it like it was her child. The pictures were like portraits and I recall the monkey being dressed in clothes.

It was weird. And, a hard pass.

Lots of people have pets that are part of their family.
Most hotels are now "pet friendly" since people drag their pets around along with their kids when travelling.
You cant smoke in a hotel room anymore but its ok for your dog to shat on the carpet.

I dunno. Having the monkey lady around the office might prove entertaining.

What hotel has a policy that says it's okay for dogs to take a dump on the carpet? I've stayed in pet friendly hotels lots of times, but none of them told me it was okay for my dog to deuce on the floor.

My brother is a long-line trapper in the Glennallen area who treats his dogs like children. Don't ask me to explain it, but he and his wife don't have any actual human children.

We hold other humans to a higher standard than animals because well...... humans and animals aren't the same when it really comes down to it. That's why we are more easily offended by them. If I pooped in your living room you would be more offended than If your dog did.

This animals being the same as other family members is just a product of a society that is believing truth is based on feelings more than facts and logic....."I feel this way therefore this is my TRUTH"
Starting to see the fruits of that way of thinking coming to bear aren't we.

My dog is not a true equal in the family but it’s status is way higher then people that don’t live here you hurt my dog I hurt you. That goes for any property that I have not just the dog really.

I get that. But in the natural order of things your dog or my dog has no more transcendental value than any other animal. Or in other words the only thing that sets my most beloved pet apart from any other animal in truth is my emotional feelings for it.

Had my dog with me at the Fur Takers. Stayed in a motel that second night, and ask about bringing the dog in. He says 45 bucks a night. I said I would shoot my dog before I paid you 45 bucks for the dog. He said, you wouldn't shoot your dog. I told him, I'm one of those mean trappers....think I might just go do it right now! In comiefornia they would have arrested me for hate speech! lol grin
