Metal building insulation ? - 08/10/21 07:55 PM

Ok guys, I'm having a new metal building put up its 28x30 with 12 foot walls and a 4/12 pitch roof.

How would you insulate it if it was yours? Spray foam or foam boards? or?
What does the square footage come out to be for the walls and celling for insulation purposes?

Just under 2500SF. I'm partial to 1 1/2" spray foam to fill the gaps on the out side walls and ceiling. then run plumbing and electrical. Finish with batts.

Just use foam to fill gaps like the can of foam then bats? I think the studs are 2 inch square tubing.

I got a quote to have mine spray foamed. It was 6 thousand for 1 inch thick foam. This is for a 40 x 60 with 11 foot side walls. The building cost 32 thousand including concrete.

No, spray the whole interior, so the entire wall and ceiling space has an even covering.

I guess it depends on whether or not you are going to finish the walls with shething.

Just remember with spray on foam if the tin rust out you will have to reinsulate the building with the tin I have a building this way the tin rusted from the inside out because moisture was between the insulation and the tin.

Trying to figure out the best way to do the roof.

Ok what about coating the floor?

Bob how long did it take to rust out?

Granted our humidity is way lower then most places

never heard of one rusting from the inside out , must have had moisture trap in between when spray , foam will seal it ? my metal is guarantee for 40 years

From what I understand spray foam is hard for a guy to afford vs much cheaper for something a little less efficient. I guess it would depend on what I planned on using the building for... i.e. how much time I was going to spend out there.

Mine is a pole barn and already built. If I was doing it, it would be hard to beat just nailing sheets of insulation the exposed slats on the inside and ceiling.

If I was building it and planning to insulate it I always liked the pole barn style with stick built walls propped up between the posts. They'd be 2x6 to match the "poles", I'd use regular fiberglass, and cover it with OSB. Current lumber prices though may make that method less desirable and actually may justify spray foaming it though.

My neighbor just spray foamed 3" on a 50 x 104 with 18 ft side walls no ceiling for 12 grand, had another estimate for 18 grand. some put up plastic to keep foam from adhering to steel.
