Wound vac during recovery

Wound vac during recovery - 08/15/21 04:13 PM

I am recovering from surgery and currently have a wound vac on a cut down my belly. If you have never experienced a wound vac change... wow. I hope you never have too. This is one of the most painful things I've had to deal with. Pulling the tape across the cut every other day is getting old.

My ex went through that after a c section. The nurse found a typical cream with a poison killer in it. That helped immensely. I think had Lidocaine in it.

I've had one. Tell your nurse to get some of that liquid they wipe on your skin before applying the tape. It creates kind of a shield and doesn't make the tape removal as painful.

I will say I have NEVER seen a tape that sticks the way that stuff does!

I feel bad for you. Had one on my chest, I swear when they removed it, it felt like the staples were coming out also. Made my chest hurt just reading your post.

Thanks. I will have to get that. I'm looking at another 3-4 weeks with it.

My wife is a home health nurse and I can tell you the nurses don't like them either. She feels terrible for the patients every time she does one.

Wound Vac Not fun ! Had one on my rear for a month. I think they used 3M- Cavilon skin barrier every change.
It was uncomfortable but very painful at changes.

This is the stuff I was talking about above. Not sure what brand it was/.... but skin barrier. It doesn't make it not hurt (it still does!) but without it the pain was almost unbearable.

Man, this is getting old. Wound care estimates another 6 to 8 weeks with it.. Boss won't let me go back to work until I'm completely healed. I have found an adhesive remover that works wonders however.

Feeling for ya. Used one on my groin / thigh for 4 months. Having the surrounding area shaved is going the help.

It takes awhile but pretty neat to watch it close up. One day you'll notice it looks smaller and after that it seems to really start speeding up, to where you can see the difference every time you change the sponge.
