How hard is it strip down ?

Mine needs a good cleaning inside the action, real stiff to rack shells

Google "Winchester model 97 full take down youtube" I would post a link but I suck at that. It will run you through complete field stripping.I believe that's the model some Cops used to use.Does your have a bayonet lug on it?

I have one my Dad bought out of a Stoegers catalog for $60 before I was born in 1956. Is the pump handle oblong? The earlier model was round.

I love those old guns with the round forearms. It was what I was weaned on, and I never could get used to the feel of a big blocky square forearm in my hand.

We recently had to take apart my Remington model 31 20ga. It looks a lot like your gun. One day it just stopped firing.. you couldn't pull the trigger! Internet said it was a piece (I forget now what it was called) of the trigger assembly causing the problem. Well, I just so happened to have a model 31 16ga too, so I decided we needed to swap out the trigger assemblies. As Upstate suggested, we googled up a youtube video of how to take it apart. Well when we took it apart, it was filthy. We did swap the triggers, but in the end all it needed was a good cleaning, as once we got them all put back together, the 16ga worked too. We did run into a bit of trouble, as one of the cartridge stops was bent which made it extremely hard to get back together, but we did get it done. And then I ordered a new cartridge stop in case we ever have to do that again LOL.

I have an Ithaca featherweight 20 gauge, old model with 37 action, awesome gun. Fairly easy to disassemble.

WARNING!!!!! If you shoot it, beware of the bolt coming out the back and striping the skin off your thumb when you rack it. LOL, Don't ask.

The cause of your problem might be the way you store it. Do not store it with the barrel pointing up even though the gun safe is made that way. The oil will slowly over the years drift down the barrel into the action and gum things up. Just a guess but I hope it helps some one..........jk

Some would say that the model 12 was to compete with the Remington model 10.

Another thought,,If it has only had a box of shells through it,,probly needs some breaking in even though its age.A cleaning cant hurt anything,,but it probly needs a few hundred "rackings" to get her broke in and running smooth.
