Last night youngest was at grandparents and decided to use an ax to cut wood. Missed on first swing and found her foot. Got real lucky and just needed stiches. Girl will be the death of me!

That is one lucky little girl, that could have ended way worse than it did. Glad she is alright.

At least she did not cut off a toe. Hope she does well. Looks like they did a good job with stitches

She will definitely remember that. Axes are no joke, for sure.

Back in the late 1930s, my two uncles were playing with an axe by the pigpen. They decided they were gonna chop a piece of hemp rope, so the younger of the two held it on top of a post while the other uncle swung the axe. You guessed it, took half his thumb off with the first swing.

Thanks all. Sadly this girl is a bit like her dad. Goes in fast and head first sometimes. Scares me.

Thanks all again! If she hit it at an angle versus straight on would have been a mess! Dang kid!

Glad she's OK. How old is she, what kind of shoe was she wearing, if any!
Dear hunting buddy's Dad wacked himself in the leg with an ax as a kid. By the time they noticed it was going bad, and got the mule hitched to the wagon and got to Springfield, Mo, (2 day trip) he had to have it removed. Cabin was located in what is now Ft. Leonard Wood. My buddy used to wear 2 pair of his Pop's long John's with 1 leg cut off, being not needed, Scott would yank on 1 pair backwards so as to cover both legs. LOL

only 3 stiches is small time for ax injuries

definitely boots steel toe and most importantly better technique

flip flops and sandals is for walking around in the house , by the pool and in the nicely mowed lawn.

I see people wear those things every where

we went on a hike one time my oldest was about 9-10 decided she would wear flip flops , insisted they would be fine that they liked them the best

earned the name "walks with stupid shoes" the hike had 700 feet of elevation

my son had a very similar injury to your daughter , dropped a knife in his foot , twice , clean and butterfly together both times.

She is ten and was at her grandparents for a bonfire. Wearing flip flops and decided to handle an ax. Got lucky. Grandfather is a famer. He wonders why half his farming friends are missing digits!

Glad she is ok , could have been much worse.

Tell her that is not the right tool for a pedicure.

Thanks. This was a good lesson learned early in life for her. She went to hit a piece of wood, either missed or glanced it, and did not have enough muscle to pull back all the way before barely glancing her foot. I asked what would have happened if she would have put a lot more into the swing? She said she did not want to even think about that!

Bottom line to grandpa. Ten year olds should not be handling adult size tools in most cases!

Very glad that your daughter is OK. You have some good lineage with a little rascal that has grit like that. I would be very proud! Chancey

Thank you. All six daughters have awesome grit in their own unique ways. But if you asked each who is tougher mom or dad I am sure they would say they would not want to cross me and pick their mother. When the going gets tough she is always the go too. i am blessed!
