Afternoon Jesus Freaks - 09/15/21 08:20 PM

Question of the day, are Jehovah Witness folk true Cristainans

or just a money making cult ? Their views are much

diffent than the Baptist or even the Catholics, but their God

is the same, is anybody right and is anybody wrong ?

I would love to get into Islam, but my theology is gone,

seems to me that Islam was first kinda formed when

Isaac booted out one of his boys because of inheritance.

I could be wrong, and probably am but it is out there,

just don't know where ?

I think the real Christians play with snakes, drink poison, and speak in tongues.

Re: Afternoon Jesus Freaks - 09/15/21 08:37 PM

I run over snakes, drink all kinds of poison in limited quantities such as cherry juice (which the pits contain cyanide), and most definitely believe the Word of God to be true and unchanging and am living proof of the Holy Spirit filling to the utmost with evidence of speaking in tongues! I am not ashamed of Christ nor the Holy Spirit and believe in Gods Word - the Bible.

Considering all the fack around the Cristainan faith,

someone has to be wrong ?? Israel, the chosen people are

predominantly non christian as the word is today.

Who is right and who is wrong ? Today they are putting queers into

pastors of church's, isn't that a gateway to hades, but they are considered

Christian by the church

Re: Afternoon Jesus Freaks - 09/15/21 08:41 PM

I believe the Jehovahs Witnesses have some scriptural based beliefs but many more that are not found in scripture and can not be substantiated.. I do not agree with their beliefs. If they have confessed their sins and repented of them and believe Jesus has forgiven them and He alone is the true son of God sent to redeem them - they stand a pretty good chance. If they believe some of their wackiness.......no.

homosexuality is still a sin even if they are put into a church

Israel is God's chosen nation - those of us as Christians (gentile) outside that nation are grafted into - you are correct many Jews still await the Messiah but they are still His chosen ones.

going to Hades in your opinion ?

Re: Afternoon Jesus Freaks - 09/15/21 08:47 PM

I don't consider them a money making cult. But, there is too much involvement to get into when it comes to the Watchtower Society. I refuse to refer to them as Jehovah's Witnesses as Watchtower Society was their original handle. They are the most unpatriotic religion in the US refusing to vote, salute the flag, sing the national anthem, or serve in the military.

Abraham gave his birthright to Isaac instead of Ishmael who was his first born son. Ishmael's mother was Hagar. Isaac was the son of Abraham and Sarah.

To make a long story short, the Jews and Muslims got along fine until Mohammad. He convinced the majority of the Muslims that a jinn had appeared to him and told him the Jews lied. Abraham had passed the birthright along to Ishmael, not Isaac. That's when all the trouble began and has continued on to this day.

Re: Afternoon Jesus Freaks - 09/15/21 08:53 PM

Do not know much about JW compared to some. except they do read the bible and support their arguments with their interpretation of scripture. but Islam I know a little about after 7 years in the mid east.

1) They read the Quran as history and prophesy. Most Christians do not read the old testament and try to explain away what they do not understand
2) Jesus was a Muslim and a great prophet and will return to fight during Armegedon
3) There is a difference between Suni (Arab, line of Ishmael) and Shite (Persian Iranian, line of King Nebuchadnezzar- Anunnaki): one also believes in resurrection.
4) We (Anglo-Tribe of Dan and Philistine=Cain) are the great Satan: We are not of the blood line of Seth: but of Cain, who committed the first murder (at site of Palmyra Temple of Baal) and was fathered by Satan
5) Our bloodline was cursed by Noah and God
6) That is why we are considered Infidels, non believers
7) ISIS (radical Suni) tried to bring about the end of days by destroying the temples of Baal or Cain, which the world Heritage Fund will rebuild: Palmyra.
8) Presently Russia, India and Iran along with some of the little stans countries are backing the former VP of Afghanistan against the Taliban (China Turkey and Packistan)
9) Mohamed was the true prophet of God
10) The Quran for the most part is can be read on line alot matches pre Abraham old testament
11) Hagar was Egyptian Royalty, Ishmael was first born of Abraham, this is very important to them
12) Cain or Caninities will serve Abraham because of the curse from Moses ( which equates to Anglo establishing the state OF iSREAL)

I think this is the parts you wanted to know about

One time when I was walking through the second floor of a Christian high school, looking for my daughter's classroom, I came upon a remarkable sight. Through the open door, I saw a room packed with people waving their hands and babbling into the air. Each one trying to talk over or through the others, none making any sound I recognized as belonging to an actual modern human language. I concede, though, that most human languages, through our long history, are extinct, and who is to say that no one in that room was channeling a language used by a long-extinct tribe in Siberia circa 25,000 BC?

Someone noticed me standing in the hall, stopped waving one hand, and beckoned me forward.

I turned and almost ran down the hallway. Spooked the heck out of me!

The ones that die without believing in Christ will go to hades. That ones that turn back to God (by accepting Christ) in the end times will go to Heaven. Sorry... I knew what I meant but it wasn't very clear, lol. The Bible states that in the end times 144,000 Jews will become Christians in the beginning of the Tribulation, and go on to convert many more Jews right up to the end. Those converted Jews that become Christians will be saved.

Interesting for sure, the 144000 you speak of must go forward to the jejova witness folk where they proclaim the same thing. I do find it odd that God chose a people for the promised land and then send the majority to hades after Armageddon. Why does the world hate the Jews if they are not Christian ?

Jews are Gods chosen people. Many rejected Jesus during his life and resurrection. They will eventually go to hades if they continue to reject Christ. Same as the rest of us gentiles if we choose to reject Christ. But, there are "special" provisions made for Gods chosen people and I would sum it up by saying they will have an extra measure of grace given to them.......I know a thoeologist might pick apart what I said - but yes, if a Jew rejects Christ - they will be judged and cast away from Christ.

Do you believe in miracles, angels and demons? If people were filled with the Holy Spirit with evidence of speaking in tongues during post resurrection - when did God change? Or did man just choose to limit his knowledge and depth of knowing God? I am not stating you must be filled with evidence of speaking in tongues to be saved.

I know He is! Since Covid - there has been much fear introduced into our society from satan. People are beginning to think about Biblical prophecy more and just how far we are from taking the mark of the beast. Lives are changing and hearts are softening. The Lord is standing there knocking and waiting patiently for all to answer His call. If only more could truly understand His love for them......It is our responsibility as believers to show others, through love, who Jesus is and what He did for them to have a future with Him.

I believe the 144k will be trying to convert all people, from LDS to Muslims to Buddhists to Atheists.

It's not too hard to wrap your head around if you picture God as a father. The entire old Testament is pretty much God giving his wayward children chance after chance after chance to stop stealing, lying, worshipping devils, etc., and the kids stopping their bad behavior for a moment just to turn right back to it. Of course as a father God wants more than anything for them to have a good relationship with him. But just like most human fathers, he knows he can't allow them to just disregard his rules, even though he loves them. Could God force them to obey his rules? Yes, but who would want a love that was forced? He wants his children to come to him of their own free will. After centuries of trying and failing to get them to do that, he sent his Son to die for their sins, so that they could be forgiven and come back to him. And what did the Jews do? Killed him, and refused to believe all the more. So God applied some tough love, and washed his hands of them for the time being, allowing Satan to rule the earth for now. But when he comes back again as Jesus, he will give one last ditch effort to try to save as many of them as he can.

I think people hate Jews for various reasons. For a time many Christians did because they crucified Christ. I think Christians nowadays are much more accepting of them though. And all the country around them hate them because they are not Muslim, the same reason they hate us.

Re: Afternoon Jesus Freaks - 09/15/21 10:43 PM

"That the Christian Church banned usury for many centuries is not invalidated by reference to the Bible (family planning is not disallowed in the Bible). Nor can usury be defined as the extortionate charging of interest: usury is the charging of any interest. The Vatican ties itself up in complex circumlocutions to divert attention from the fact that it runs capitalist institutions based on the most blatant condoning of usury. The verbal acrobatics testify to the contradictory situation it finds itsef in. Usury - all usury - is banned by Christian doctrine, as it is by Muslim doctrine. In the late Middle Ages the problem of financing the royal exchequer and setting up capitalist institutions in the face of the Christian ban on usury was resolved by allowing Jews to act as bankers. They therefore came to be viewed as pariahs, just as cow hide tanners are pariahs in Hindu society. It was in this way that the Jewish community was able to accrue vast wealth and thereby to bring down on its head the loathing of the Christians. Hence Shylock. This enmity is still the underlying basis of modern anti-Semitism. "

Re: Afternoon Jesus Freaks - 09/15/21 11:00 PM

It is very appalling the things that have been done to others in the name of a religion. Child abuse, polygamic, infidelity, executions of the worst kind possible, and greedy financial motives come to mind. Entire civilizations were stripped of gold and silver, genital mutation is still performed on Arab girls, and greedy evangelist have prayed on gullible followers, non believers or people of other races have been enslaved in the name of religions. My grandmother used to send what little had to an evangelist on Oklahoma, and in Europe, absolution assured that wealthy people could buy favors from the Pope and the Lord. If you ever have a chance to go to Seville, Spain, a visit to the Catholic Church there will reveal enough gold and silver from South America and Mexico to put a dent in world hunger. I imagine the Vatican has their share. Not sure about the Mormon center in Salt Lake City. Just look at the elaborate cathedrals every faith has built for houses of worship.

How can we separate greed and crimes against people from true religion?

JW came out of the millerites, the whackadoodles that claimed that on xx day of xxxx Jesus would return so they sold off all their crap and went and sat on a hilltop. When that didn't happen they recalculated and did over a couple times before it all broke up into JW, Seventh Day Adventist, some of the Churches of God.

LDS was invented out of whole cloth laid over a veneer of the Christian Bible by a criminal and con man. There are several texts, book of mormon/pearl of great wisdom/etc that LDS holds as devine inspired word. Most of it is just so much nonsense involving things like holy underwear, multiplicity of gods, God was originally a man and all can become gods of their own worlds. They refuse to advertise most of this playing up the JC part of their facade and don't pull out the deeper "hidden" knowledge until the convert is well and truly brainwashed.

I know quite a few JW and LDS, good people all. Misguided but good. No crime in believing falsehoods. Sad, actually.
That's one of the reasons I choose to stay with the denomination of my raising, Southern Baptist, as one of our core tenets is the priesthood of the believer where each believer is expected to know and understand scripture under the leadership of the Holy Spirit. In plain English, read it for yourself and study it. I've even done comparative reading of both JW and LDS texts. I would recommend every Christian to do so as well.

I was addressing the group as a whole Warrior, not singling you out....I don't like to see faiths singled out either, people tell us why you believe what you believe, not what you think is wrong about what others believe.

That's operating from a position of strength...Jesus is our strength, strive to emulate him.

Warrior is 100% accurate on what he said about the LDS. Before you were born you were a Spirit baby waiting for a body. These Spirit babies were waiting and excited when Adam and Eve ate the fruit from tree of knowledge.

The universe is always expanding and new plants being made and If your good you and your wife get your own plant who's population is made up from your spirit babies making you the God of that planet. And none of this is disclosed at first.

I guess they missed the part in the bible that said the work is complete and nothing should be added or taken away.

Does the thief on the cross not point to a triune God? How else could Jesus, God in the flesh, both be in Paradise and in the tomb

Re: Afternoon Jesus Freaks - 09/16/21 12:01 PM

Interesting thread. Reminds me of the chaplains I work with. Many say they are Christian but by biblical based doctrine, they are not. They are variations of whatever they have decided, just like our culture.
Us Americans, born as a nation from those who saw the carnage of division and divisiveness of monarchies and religion in Europe vowed to form "One" nation under God, which would be "indivisible" in the hearts of the people who formed it. "All" men would be created equal as Europeans fought that men "were not equals" and killed each other over empires.... not really fighting over the God of the Bible (they'd tossed the God of the Bible in the doctrinal sense... that's why Luther stepped up and challenged the corrupt Western Catholic Church).

Darwin steps in and says that survival of the fittest is how humans emerged via apes, and Marx wrote deeper on a similar subject and Hitler bought in, but figured the culling had stopped, so he and his Aryans, the master race who hadn't been culling fast enough would cull faster (for the good of mankind of course) and then with all that crap in history, the hippies, who led our nation as formational teachers, professors, AND CLERGY since the 1960's said toss it all.

Toss history.
Toss country borders.
Toss authority.
Toss rules.
Toss laws.
Toss the God of the Bible.

Keep your spirits (same as the divinators of before Christ. Pharaoh had some cool magicians and you never know when a good magic trick may come in handy).
Keep your persona spirit angels and keep your demons (same as pagans throughout human history).
Just toss the God of the Bible, because anyone (Jesus) who said; “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand" (Matt 4:17) is a bigot in our time, just was we was despised in His time.
How much did the people hate hearing that in 33AD? The Jewish establishment along with the cheers of the crowd traded Jesus, who was not deemed guilty by the Roman governor, for a criminal.
Sounds about as backwards as 2021.

Because people with their sin nature and churches not grounded in biblical foundations don't follow the Gospel.
Those people and those churches follow culture.
It's as old as mankind. (Is it still ok to say "man" in these times, with people being "brights" and all?)

Part of it is ignorance = people don't know the Bible. It is hard to be faithful to receive, preserve, and pass on what was not handed properly to you/us.
As Jude wrote in the 1st century, doctrine was mixed up back then too, "I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints."

Part of it is pride = people won't work together for the good of Christ's Body. They think "they" as individuals are the temple just like Gnostics did before Jesus was Incarnate.
Or they think that the Triune God, which is laid across every Book of the Canonical Bible, is not true... just as the Arians in the early centuries or JW or Mormons today confess. Cults all.

Yes, there have been church councils formed to answer heretics (we still have heretics today - especially Arians) and clarify theology in the early centuries, because EVERY time great historical periods emerge, "humans" emerge with great ideas! Early centuries after Christ, the Roman empire was fading and humans began to create gods in their own image and in the 1800's, with great evolutionary, medical, and scientific discover comes once again.... don't miss this.... "human wisdom and visions." False teachings popped up. New revelations from God? No >>>> just humans being humans and forming their "own" gods again. Buried books and new angelic visions have led to 19th -21st century false teachers, just like in Corinth, all of Galatia, and other cities (read the NT).

Since Christ ascended missionary Gospel spreading began by the power of the Spirit (Acts 2) all the disciples had to wade into false teachers in the 1st century as far as what the Gospel of Jesus Christ is, and what it isn't. 2,000 years haven't changed the hearts of some people.

Today, there remains a Spirit inspired Church, and the Truth is still preached according to what the Jesus handed His Apostles who handed the Gospel to their disciples.
I'd urge people to learn that history, rather than the false teachers.
It is available for sincere hearts.
Jesus promised it to the humble, who are not the weak, but the convicted amongst evil.

Blessings,
Mark

Re: Afternoon Jesus Freaks - 09/16/21 12:46 PM

The search for basic truth is worldwide, but we define where we find it.
Jesus was VERY specific that He alone is the Truth and the Life.
It's humans that say, not so.

Jesus intentionally taught 12 men, one of whom betrayed Him, who changed the course of human history.
It's up to each of us who've heard Jesus' to decide to yield to His truth or rework it according to our own image.

Pluralists despise the exclusiveness of the Gospel.
Make no mistake.
Literally.

In the account of the nativity of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew, the Biblical Magi who come from the east call Jesus the " King of the Jews ", causing Herod the Great to order the Massacre of the Innocents.

Then is the account of the crucifixion JOHN 19:19-22 19 Now Pilate wrote a title and put it on the cross. And the writing was: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS. 20 Then many of the Jews read this title, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin. 21 Therefore the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘The King of the Jews,’ but, ‘He said, “I am the King of the Jews.”

Most "Christian" cults profess the bible as the Word of God. The trouble is, they also believe that God has given them additional light. Good examples would be Watchtower Society, Mormons, Unification Church, Christian Science, etc.

Whoa, I didn't mean my post to be a defense of Baptist belief or to start a bashing. I'll be the very first to say there has and is much scriptural error to be found within my choice of denomination. I'll also clearly state the my first allegiance and only allegiance that truly matters is to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

The rest is just splitting hairs

Truth be told I'm one of those crusty baptists that looks to the pulpit, association, state and national conventions with an accounting eye. I was raised on the doctrine of congregational autonomy and voluntary association. But I'm also of the firm belief that one must grow where one is planted and my last orders from God above was to grow in First Baptist Church of Sunny Side Georgia.

Yup, before the local JWs gave up on me I used to give them fits on my front porch handing them my Bible and asking to do a verse by verse comparison. I think the straw that broke the camels back was my calling out their blasphemy when they countered that Jesus was just a son of God not THE Son of God. I politely asked them to please refrain from blaspheming in my presence.

I enjoy a good discussion on things like this. It's when people either try to full on convert people who haven't asked or flat out say someone else is wrong that makes me step away.

Had a great night a few weeks ago discussing beliefs with a good friend who is Hindu. Typically our group of friends avoids topics like politics, religion and money. This time a conversation on history and some current events in the middle east turned into one on religion. Got some questions answered I have been wondering on for a long time. As the cocktails started to work, however, he started explaining why Christianity was incorrect and a mockery of a belief system. That's when I walked away from that discussion. Next day we are both good friends and no one wasted breath on arguing.

We will all find out one day who was right.

I agree with you. The only differences are doctrinal. Jesus said, "This is my body. This is my blood" when He broke bread and drank wine. Some churches say He was speaking literally. Others say he was speaking figuratively. There are other differences too. But, most of these same churches still believe Jesus was God in the flesh, believe in the Trinity, and if Jesus wasn't God, then the atonement never happened.

Re: Afternoon Jesus Freaks - 09/16/21 07:20 PM

Peter, conscious that his impending martyrdom is immanent, (Peter was killed before Paul ) writes around 65AD what is called the 2nd letter to the believers and it might as well have been written here at the beginning of the third millennium where the pagan cultures of our times and the condition of the church very much resemble what Peter saw happening 30 years after Jesus ascended to the right hand of the Father in 33AD. The world is assaulting the church and false teachers are attempting to infiltrate.

2 Peter is rarely taught and preached but is sorely needed among Christian churches.

A bit of relevant scripture; 2 Peter 3:1-17;
This is now, beloved, the second letter I am writing to you in which I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminde
that you should remember the words spoken beforehand by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken by your apostles.
Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation.”
For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water, through which the world at that time was destroyed, being flooded with water.
But by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.
The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.
Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat!
But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.
Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless, and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; just as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you, as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.
You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men and fall from your own steadfastness,

Blessings,
Mark

If you go by the BITE model which is one of the best accepted models for determining whether an organization is a cult or not there are many "religious organizations" that check many of the right boxes to be a cult including but definitely not limited to the Jw, Mormons, catholics, church of christ, scientology, and too many more to list.

Davisfur,
Please excuse followers of the Lord Jesus Christ from this psychological humanism being a "go to" source.
We use the Inerrant, Inspired Bible as our primary Truth with secondary input from the sciences.
Historical theological doctrine is well established and grounded firmly and eternally in the Word of God.
Science changes with the times.

I came across this verse today Buzzard and thought it might help your questions regarding the Jewish. This was Jesus, speaking to the Jews in Luke 13.

37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! 38Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. 39For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
